GALLUP — State Sen. George Muñoz is accustomed to being at the center of conversations in Gallup, his hometown, and the undeniable heart of Indian Country.

The chatter often involves Muñoz’ take on the state of affairs in Gallup, or some government bounty he’s snared for McKinley or Cibola counties, both reeling from economic downturns.
