Carlos Azua

GALLUP — Memorial services for Carlos Richard Azua, 56, will be Saturday, Sept. 12, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gallup. A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Gallup.

Azua died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born Nov. 4, 1952, in Gallup.

Azua attended and graduated from Gallup High School. He was a member of the Rainbow Coalition and Elks Lodge where he was also employed. Even though he was disabled, he always made his independence clear. Azua could not be held down. He enjoyed music and sports, especially football. He loved chili, beans and eggs. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his mother, Estefanita “Fannie” Gurule; sisters, Jo Anna Parra, Stephanie Hagberg, Christina Azua, Paula Azua-Stofleth; brothersm, Joe Azua, John J. Azua, Tom Azua, Robert Azua, Fred Azua, Ben Azua.

Azua was preceded in death by his father, Joe Azua; brother, Bernard Azua.

Jerry Begay

SHEEPSPRINGS — Funeral services for Jerry A. Begay, 87, were 10 a.m., today, Sept. 4, at Sheepsprings Full Gospel. Deloris Martin officiated. Burial was in Sheepsprings. Visitation was at Rollie Mortuary. A rosary was recited today, Sept. 4.

Begay died Sept. 1, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born May 21, 1922, in Sheepsprings, into the Red Running Into the Water People Clan for the One Who Walks Around People Clan.

Begay attended Toadlena and Shiprock schools. He worked for the railroad and traveled throughout the United States. He later joined the Army.

Begay was also a cowboy who trained and rode horses. He love spending time with family and friends. He liked to joke around and laugh with people he knew. Begay also did sand paintings and drawings.

Survivors include his son, Leo Begay of Crownpoint; brother, Harry A.Begay of Sheepsprings; sisters, Lucy Curtis of Sheepsprings, Irene Barber of Sheepsprings; 20 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Begay was preceded in death by Miles Begay, Mary A. Begay, Marie B. Domingo.

Pallbearers were Wayne Tom, Tyson Lee, Alfred Yazzie, Chester John, Manuel Curtis, Wilbur Johnson.

The family received relatives and friends at Sheepsprings Chapter House, following services.

Rollie Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Susie Begay

BLACK MOUNTAIN — Funeral services for Susie Marie Begay, 85, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 5, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Chinle. Burial will be in family plot, Blue Gap.

Begay died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, in Farmington. She was born Feb. 24, 1924, in Black Mountain.

Desert View Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Leonard Eskeets

REHOBOTH — Funeral services for Leonard Lee Eskeets, 76, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 5, at Bethany Christian Reformed Church, Gallup. The Rev. Keith Bulthuis will officiate. Burial will be in Rehoboth Cemetery, Rehoboth.

Eskeetd died Aug. 31, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born May 3, 1933, in Rehoboth, into the Meadow People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.

Eskeets had his Bachelors in Business Administration from NAU, Flagstaff. He was a church member of Bethany Reformed Church, Gallup. He received military awards. His hobbies included playing pool, reading and church. He still wanted to continue his education and try to get his PH.D.

Survivors include his sons, Michael Eskeets of Chinle, Myron Eskeets of Chinle; daughters, Nora Wilson, Norma Etsitty, Leona Charley, Laverne Eskeets, all of Chinle; brother, Louis Eskeets of Churchrock; sisters, Laura Eskeets of Gallup, Lorraine June of Churchrock; 23 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren.

Eskeets was preceded in death by his daughter, Delores Eskeets; brother, Raymond Eskeets; sisters, Linda Gracia, Lenora Eskeets; parents, Keene Eskeets-Gliz-bahe, Thomas Williams-Alma Williams.

Pallbearers will be Jerome Eskeets, Myron Eskeets, Travis Pahe, Nathaniel Eskeets, Ronald Burbank, Joe Toledo.

The family will receive relatives and friends at 6 p.m., at Churchrock Chapter House.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Bennie Skeets Sr.

COYOTE CANYON — Funeral services for Bennie Y. Skeets Sr., 63, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 5, at Rollie Mortuary, Gallup. Seth Yates will officiate. Burial will be in the family plot, Rocky Point. Visitation will be 3-4:30 p.m., today, Sept. 4, at Rollie Mortuary.

Skeets died Aug. 29, 2009,in Albuquerque. He was born March 28, 1946, in Twin Buttes, into the Bitter Water People Clan for the Mexican People Clan.

Skeets completed his education in Chicago, Ill., where he mostly grew up. He moved back to Gallup and worked at Rico’s as a collector, Carson Trading Post, Rainbow Bread, and Holsom. His favorite thing to do was watch WWE, John Wayne movies, fishing, listen to music and spend time with friends and relatives.

Survivors include his wife, Flora Skeets of Coyote Canyon; sons, Scott Skeets, Davey Skeets, both of Rocky Point, Bennie Skeets Jr., Tatum Skeets, both of Skeets Road, Jason Skeets, Marty Skeets, both of Coyote Canyon; daughter, Jessica Skeets of Coyote Canyon, Peggy Frank of Skeets Road; mother, Denise Skeets of Rocky Point; brother, Roger Skeets of Rock Point; sisters, Rosemary Joe, Marie Skeets, Gracie Gatewood, Christine John, Gloria Skeets, all of Rocky Point; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchildren.

Skeets was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Skeets; sisters, Nina Skeets, Susie Skeets.

Pallbearers will be Scott Skeets, Jason Skeets, Roger John, Davey Skeets, Marty Skeets, Daniel John.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Bethany Christian Reformed Church, following services.
