Mayor vetoes SWIF lease
Tuesday meeting to shed light on the issue

GALLUP — A contentious economic and political struggle hit a major bump Wednesday when Mayor Harry Mendoza vetoed the city’s latest attempt at finalizing a lease agreement with the Southwest Indian Foundation.

City Manager Gerald Herrera said Mendoza signed off on the veto, defined as a rejection, of sorts, in political circles, about a full day after a special session meeting in which Gallup City Council voted to give the foundation a new lease.
