Jim Ben
WHEATFIELDS — Funeral services are pending for Jim Ben, 80.
Ben died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, in Flagstaff. He was born Oct. 12, 1928, in Wheatfields.
Desert View Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Dale James
LUKACHAKI — Services for Dale James, 57, will be 10 a.m., Sept. 15, at St. Isbelle Church, Lukachaki. The Rev. Blaine will officiate. Burial will be in Lukachaki.
James died Sept. 11, 2009, in Gallup. He was born May 31, 1952, in Fort Defiance.
Survivors include his wife, Bettie Tso James; sons, Darrell James, Dorian James, Derrick James, Dale James; mother, Merita James; brothers, Byron James, Samual James, Sammie James, Erwin James; sister, Betty James; seven grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his father, Sam James.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Marian Upshaw
ST. MICHAELS — Funeral Mass for Mariano Tso Upshaw, 90, will be in 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 15, at St. Michaels Catholic Church. The Rev. Gilbert will officiate. Burial will be in Charlie Chapeau Upshaw Memorial Cemetery, St. Michaels. Visitation will be prior to mass, at St. Michaels Church. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m., tonight, Sept. 14, at St. Michaels Church.
Upshaw died Sept. 12, 2009, in Gallup. She was born June 20, 1919, in Hunters Point, into the Zia People Clan for the Edgewater People Clan.
Upshaw attended St. Michaels Indian School in the 1930’s. She was a homemaker. Her hobbies included weaving, sewing and baking.
Survivors include her sons, Paul Upshaw of Farmington, Frank Upshaw Sr., of St. Michaels, Ben Upshaw of St. Michaels, Francis Upshaw of Tucson, Calvin Upshaw of St. Michaels, Wilfred Upshaw of St. Michaels, Gerald Upshaw of St. Michaels; daughters, Marie Enfield of Gallup, Loretta Upshaw of St. Michaels; sisters, Catherine Tso of Hunters Point, Marie T. Allen of Fort Defiance; 35 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
Upshaw was preceded in death by her parents, Hosteen and Martha Tso; husband, John Upshaw; sons, Raymond Upshaw, Melvin Upshaw.
Pallbearers will be Raymond Upshaw Jr., Herman Upshaw, Reuben Mike, Shawndell Upshaw, William Upshaw, Ramon Allen.
The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Michaels Mission Hall, following services.
