WINDOW ROCK — Ramona Tso loves dogs, so when the opportunity to foster puppies through a Navajo Nation Veterinarian’s Office program she jumped at the chance. Now she is taking care of seven puppies before they leave to get adopted elsewhere.

The puppy adoption program has been existence since 1995 as a way to alleviate the Navajo Nation’s problem with dog overpopulation, said Kendra Wapaha, community outreach coordinator for the tribe‘s veterinarian‘s office.

The program is also seeking volunteers to feed, walk and interact with the puppies, Wapaha said.
