Elsie Becenti

PINEDALE — Funeral services are pending for Elsie Lee Becenti, 91.

Becenti died Oct. 2, 2009, in Gallup. She was born Dec. 30, 1917, in Pinedale.

Family gathering will be 6 p.m., tonight, Oct. 3, at and 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, at Pinedale Chapter.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Daniel Burnside

PINE SPRINGS — Funeral services for Daniel H. Burnside, 93, will be 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 5, at St. Michaels Catholic Church, St. Michaels. The Rev. Gilbert Schneider, OFM will officiate. Burial will be in Fort Defiance Veterans Cemetery, Fort Defiance. Visitation will be in Rollie Mortuary Chapel.

Burnside died Sept. 29, 2009, in Flagstaff. He was born June 7, 1916, in Pine Springs, into the Folded Arms People Clan for the Hanging Rock People Clan.

Burnside attended Fort Wingate Boarding School and received his high school diploma and attended vocational training in Haskett Indian Institute for 6 months in Lawrence, Kan. Upon completion of his 6 months training, he entered the U.S. Marines Corps in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1946. Burnside was a World War II veteran. His hobbies included playing cards, bingo, word puzzles, field trips, Navajo Nation band, watching Clint Eastwood and John Wayne movies with family and friends. He was worked with the railroad.

Survivors include his 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Burnside was preceded in death by his wife, Ida L. Burnside; sister, Nesbah Burnside; brother, Tom Burnside; one grandson.

Pallbearers will be Freddie Roan Sr., Ronald Descheenia, Freddie Roan Jr., Gilbert Bennett, Wayne Wilson.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Oak Springs Chapter, following services.

William Kyle

KERRVILLE — A celebration of life for William M. “Bill” Kyle, 80, will be 5 p.m., Monday, Oct. 5, at Kerrville Funeral Home.

Kyle died Sept. 30, 2009, in Kerrville. He was born Oct. 5, 1928, in Durango, Colo.

Kyle graduated from Durango High School and then joined the US Air Force and served from 1947-1949, receiving the rank of Staff Sergeant.

After leaving the USAF, he continued his education and worked as an accountant for many years. Kyle was a longtime resident of Gallup and Santa Fe, moved to Kerrville in 1990, and enjoyed his retirement, becoming an avid Bridge player, joining numerous Bridge Clubs in the area.

Survivors include his sons, William P. “Bill” Kyle of Louisville, Colo., James V. “Jim” Kyle of Kerrville, Robert A. “Bob” Kyle of Albuquerque; brother, V. Hugh Kyle of Boise, Idaho; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild.

Kyle was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon G. and Martha E. Sanders Kyle.

Joe Perales Jr.

WHITTER, Calif. — Funeral Mass for Joe “Oso” Anthony Perales Jr., 57, will be 9 a.m., Monday, Oct. 5, at St. Francis, Gallup. The Rev. Eduardo “Lalo” Espinosa Chacon, OFM will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Gallup. Visitation will be 8-9 a.m., at St. Francis Chruch. A rosary will be recited 9 a.m., Oct. 5.

Perales died Sept. 28, 2009, in Whitter, Calif. He was born Nov. 27, 1951, in Gallup.

Perales was an alumni from St. Francis Catholic School, class of 1966. He graduated from Gallup in 1971. He was state champion in 1968 for Gallup wrestling.

Survivors include his step-mother, Imelda Perales of Gallup; five brothers; two sisters; grandparents, Joe and Dolores Martinez.

Perales was preceded in death by Sylvia Nativida Martinez, Joe Perales Jr.; two brothers.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Perales, Tony Barela, Ray Perales, Daniel Roan, Angelo Sanchez, Andre Perales, Bernadette Burrola, Sylvia Caballero, Larry Lee Perales.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Lupe Pohl

GRANTS — Funeral Mass for Lupe Estella Pohl, 72, will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 6, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Burial will be in Grants Memorial Park. Very Rev. Alberto Avella will be the celebrant. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 5, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Pohl died Sept. 30, 2009, in Grants. She was born March 3, 1937, in Grants.

Pohl was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life. She enjoyed sitting on the porch watching them play and enjoyed them to the fullest. Pohl loved trying to teach them Spanish.

Survivors include her husband, Eloven Pohl of Grants; daughters, Margie Pohl of Grants, Angelina Pohl of Grants, Eloisa White of Grants; son, Dennis Pohl of Grants; sisters, Jennie Soto of San Francisco, Calif., Mary Flores of San Francisco, Margaret Marquez of Grants; brothers, Frank Robledo of Albuquerque, Albert Robledo of San Francisco, Fred Robledo of San Francisco; three grandchildren.

Pohl was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Montano, Eloisa Montano; daughter, Debbie Pohl.

Pallbearers will be Catarino Hernandez, Ivan Marquez, Shane White, Joseph Quintana, Frank Chavez, Steven Hands.

Benson Silversmith Jr.

TOHATCHI — Funeral services for Benson Silversmith Jr., 36, will be 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 5, at Tohatchi Penecostal Church. The Rev. Jerry Begay will officiate. Burial will be in Tohatchi family plot.

Silversmith died Sept. 29, 2009, in Gallup. He was born June 18, 1973, in Fort Defiance, into the Water Edge People Clan for the Within his Cover People Clan.

Silversmith graduated in 1992 from Tohatchi High School. He worked for T.O.A.S in Tohatchi and various jobs. He was in cross country and received several awards and trophies. Silversmith enjoyed spending time with family and friends and to make johkes.

Survivors include his parents, Mary Henry, Benson Silversmith Sr.; step-mother, Gladys Silversmith; brothers, Ronald Henry, Dory Silversmith, James Silver, Ernest Sage, Bryon Yazzie; sisters, Rachelle K. Yazzie, Millie Henry, Marlene Billie, Sharon Henderson, Imogene Morris; grandparents, Annie and Tom Holyan.

Pallbearers will be Dory Silversmith, Ronnie Henderson, Randy Henderson, Marty Henry, Ronald Henry, and Herbert Bitsilly.
