GALLUP — The Gallup/McKinley County Schools system is going after a state grant to become a part of a federal project to make school districts greener.

At the last school board meeting, board members gave the OK for the Gallup-McKinley County Public School District to submit a grant application to the state to go after a solar panel project that would reduce the district’s cost for electrical power by as much as $250,000 a year.
