Connie Bond

GALLUP — Funeral Mass for Connie Bond, 88, will be 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 16, at Sacred Heart Cathedral. The Very Rev. Lawrence O’Keefe will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 15, at Cope Memorial Chapel. Rosary will be 7 p.m., Nov. 15, at Sacred Heart Cathedral.

Bond died Nov. 11, 2009. She was born May 1, 1921, in Weaver.

Bond was a life resident of the area and was active with the Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish.

She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, Legion of Mary, The Blue Army and helped many years with Sacred Heart Cathedral Bazaar taking special interest in the turkey dinner and Christmas booths.

Survivors include her children, Marianne Chaput of Fountain Valley, Calif., Marvin Bond Jr. of Farmington, Michael Bond of Huntington Beach, Calif., Domitila “Tillie” Ryan of Bastrop, Texas, Richard Bond of Gallup, David Bond of Gallup; sister, Mary Lopez of El Hambra, Calif.; brother, John Azua of Gallup; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. 

Bond was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Gayle Bond Sr.; parents, Joaquin and Domitila Azua; sisters, Lupe Azua, Mary “Teter” Manis; brothers, Joe Azua, Tony Azua. 

Pallbearers will be David Bond, Christopher Bond, Bernard Bond, Jeremy Bond, Jonathan Bond, and Joseph Bond.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Sacred Heart Cathedral Family Center, following services.

In Lieu of flowers, the family would like Memorial Contributions to be made to The American Cancer Society.

Randall Gould

MESA — Services for Randall “Butch” Gould, 32, will be 10 a.m., Nov. 16, at Mary Mother of Mankind. Burial will be in St. Michaels. A rosary will be recited at Mary Mother of Mankind.

Gould died Nov. 11, 2009, Phoenix. He was born Sept. 26, 1977, in Gallup, into the Bitter Water People Clan.

Gould attended Window Rock High School, Scottsdale Community College, Haskell Indian Nation University. He was an avid fan of Cardinals, Phoenix Suns, Lakers, New York Yankees. Gould loved playing basketball. He had a passion for working with Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community Youth.

Survivors include his sons, Caulin J. Gould, Cai J. Gould; parents, Jimmie Gould, Louise Gould; brother, Jeff Gould; sisters, Rhonda Denetdeal, Seraphania Gould; grandfather, Charlie D. Joe.

Gould was preceded in death by his grandmother, Sadie Y. Joe.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Michael Parish Hall, following services.

Dorthina James

ROUGH ROCK — Funeral services for Dorthina Marie James, 26, will be 10 a.m., Nov. 14, at Sacred Heart Parish, Farmington. The Rev. Tim Farrell will officiate. Burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery.

James died Nov. 10, 2009, in Grand Junction. She was born Feb. 17, 1983, in Gallup, into the One Who Walks Around People Clan for the Folded Arms People Clan.

James graduated from Chinle High School and attended Dine College, College of Eastern Utah, San Juan Campus.

Survivors include her parents, Larry James, Nalena Begay; brothers, Liddon Begay, Kyle Bahe; sisters, Katarine Begay, Tracey Begay, Shania Begay, Dorothy Begay.

James was preceded in death by her grandfather, Yellowhair Begay; grandmother, Dorothy Begay.

Pallbearers will be Alfonso Begay, Danny Begay, Rex Begay, Harvey Begay, Elrid Tohe, Liddon Begay, Brandon Tso, Raymond Bia.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Whitehill Ranch, Rough Rock, following servies.

Gloria Johnston

COYOTE CANYON — Funeral mass for Gloria Charlie-Johnston, 58, will be 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 16, at St. Mary Mission, Tohatchi. The Rev. John Mittelstadt, OFM, will officiate. Burial will be in private family lot, Coyote Canyon.

Johntson died Nov. 11, 2009, in Gallup. She was born Sept. 13, 1951, in Rehoboth, into the Water Flows Together People Clan for the Start of the Red Streak People Clan.

Johnston attended UNM-Albuquerque, UC-Berkeley, Jefferson High School, St. Michaels Sisters of the Sacrament, and Gallup Cathedral.

She worked for DNA Legal Services at the Navajo Nation. She was Navajo Nation Fair Pow-wow Committee chair and member. She also participated in the 1970 take-over of Alcatraz Island as a member of UNM Kiva Club. Johnston was an avid reader and devoted to her life for her children. She was the owner of Kehew Construction Inc., of Coyote Canyon.

Survivors include her husband, Hugh Johnston; son, Joseph Johnston; daughters, Blanche Allison, Christina Johnston, April-Sky Johnston, Larissa Rose Half; brothers, David Charlie, Anthony James; sisters, Ophelia Charlie, Emma Jean Charlie; eight grandchildren.

Johnston was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Blanche Charlie; son, Jonathan Allison; sister, Martha Begay; brother, Louis Charley Sr.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Johnston, James Pioche, Anthony James, Larry Watchman, Richard Giago, Leo Lonjose.

The family will receive relatives and friends at family home, Coyote Canyon, following services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Coyote Canyon Rehabilitation Center.

Myrtle Santiago

GALLUP — Services are pending for Myrtle Santiago, 95.

Santiago died Nov. 12, 2009, in Gallup. Born Nov. 15, 1913, in Two Wells.

Rosary will be recited 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Rollie Mortuary.
