Evelyn Sam

NASCHITTI — Funeral services for Evelyn Sam, 77, will be 10 a.m., Nov. 17, at Cope Memorial Chapel, Gallup. Deacon Sherman Manuelito will officiate. Burial will be in Naschitti Community Cemetery, Naschitti. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.

Sam died Nov. 13, 2009, in Gallup. She was born Nov. 18, 1932, in Rehoboth, into the Salt People Clan for the Red Running Into the Water People Clan.

Survivors include her sons, Herbert Sam Jr., of Naschitti, Jordan Sam of Mancos, Colo.; daughters, Darlene Sam of Naschitti, Charlene Sam of Naschitti, Marilyn Sam of Naschitti; brothers, James Shorty Begay of Naschitti, James Edward Begay of Bayard, Thomas Begay of Mancos, Colo.; sister, JoAnn Herbert of Naschitti; 29 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren.

Sam was preceded in death by her parents, Shorty and Fannie Begay; sisters, Elsie Begay, Marie Yazzie, Mary Nez; brothers, Carl Begay, John Begay, Phillip Begay, Ned Begay.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Begay, John Yazzie Jr., Jordan Sam Jr., Hubert Sam, Jayce T. Sam, Herb Sam.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Naschitti Chapter House, following services.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Jim Tom Jr.

PINEDALE — Funeral services for Jim Tom Jr., 91, will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 17, at New Life Christian Assembly, Pinedale. The Rev. Nathan Lynch will officiate. Burial will be in Pinedale.

Tom died Nov. 11, 2009, in Fort Wingate. He was born July 3, 1918, in Pinedale, into the Bitter Water People Clan for the Mountain Cove People Clan.

Tom attended Santa Fe Indian School. He was employed with Atchison Topeka, Santa Fe Railroad and worked for Pine Dale Trading Post.

Tom was in the U.S. Army and received a Purple Hear, Distinguished Unit Badge, and Victory Medal Good Conduct.

Survivors include his daughter, Jean R. Tsosie of Pinedale; sister, Louise T. Yazzie; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Better E. Tom; brothers, John Jim Tom, Tom Edison, Etto Esson; sister, Etta Esson.

Pallbearers will be Alton Tsosie, Randy Tsosie, Martin Benally, Ken Tsosie, Gerald Goldtooth, Fabian Manygoats.

The family met 5 p.m., Nov. 14, at Pinedale Chapter House.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

MESA — Graveside services for Randall “Butch” Gould, 32, will be 10 a.m., Nov. 17, at Mary Mother of Mankind. Burial will be in St. Michaels.
