GALLUP — Services are pending for Joe S. Baca Sr., 83.

Baca died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, in Gallup. He was born July 13, 1926, in Cebolletita.

Jennie Begay

MARIANO LAKE — Funeral services for Jennie Rose Begay, 55, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Mariano Lake Community Bible Church. Burial will be in Smith Lake Community Cemetery.

Begay died Jan. 6, 2010, in Santa Fe. She was born March 13, 1954, in Crownpoint.

Survivors include her brothers, Jones Begaye of Pinedale, Anthony Woody of Littlewater; sisters, Irene Billy of Pinedale, Rena Antonio of Mariano Lake.

Begay was preceded in death by her parents, Ben Tso Begay, Bessie Delgarito Begay.

Leonardo Gutierrez

WIDE RUINS — Services are pending for Leonardo Juan Gutierrez, 18.

Gutierrez died Jan. 7, 2010, in Tempe. He was born April 15, 1991, in Albuquerque.

A family gathering will be tonight, Jan. 12, at Wide Ruins Chapter House.

Stanley José

RAMAH — Funeral services for Stanley José, 53, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, Ramah. Burial will be in family plot. Visitation will be 9 a.m., Jan. 13, at Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel.

José died Jan. 9, 2010, in Ramah. He was born Sept. 3, 1957, in Blackrock, into the Meadow People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.

José was a drummer for “Yucca Breeze Band”, which was later changed to “Hwy. 53 Band”. He rebuilt motorcycles, was a jack of all trades and had a real talent for drawing and painting.

Survivors include his daughter, Shelby Lynn José of Pine Hill; brothers, Walter José, Robert José, Leonard José, all of Ramah; sister, Irene José of Ramah.

José was preceded in death by his son, Miles A. José; parents, Ben José, Katherine M. José; one granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be Robert José, Tysen José, Tyren José, Ervin José.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, Ramah, following services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his sister, Irene José, 63 Sunset Village Dr., NHA.

Benson Shirley

COYOTE CANYON — Funeral services are pending for Benson Shirley, 79.

Shirley died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, in Gallup. He was born Jan. 9, 1931, in Standing Rock, into the Sleeping Rock People Clan for the Salt People Clan.

A community gathering will be 5 p.m., tonight, Jan. 12, at Coyote Canyon Senior Citizen Center.

Leo Slim

FORT DEFIANCE — Services are pending for Leo L. Slim, 73.

Slim died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, in Fort Defiance. He was born April 19, 1936, in Kinlichee.

Family meeting will be 5 p.m., Jan. 12 and Jan. 13, at Fort Defiance Chapter House.

Christopher Tellez

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Memorial services for Christopher Robert Tellez “The Gooch”, 58, will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 16, at Carlisle Community Baptist Church, Albuquerque.

Tellez died Dec. 19, 2009, Grillete, Wyo. He was born June 6, 1951, in Gallup.

Tellez attended Gallup High School. He was awarded outstanding defensive back. He was employed with Kerr-McGee Coal for 36 years.

Tellez enjoyed photography, golf, fishing and getting involved in start up companies.

Survivors include his son, Chris J. Tellez of Albuquerque; step-son, Nick Garcia of Denver, Colo.; step-daughter, Brenda Garcia of Denver, Colo.; mother, Virginia T. Wayne of Albuquerque; brothers, Libie Gonzales of Bernalillo, Julian Gonzales of Rio Rancho, Richard Mason of Albuquerque, Michael Tellez of Albuquerque; six grandchildren.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Carlisle Community Baptist Church, following services.

Nancy Valencia

GRANTS — Rosary and funeral mass for Nancy M. Valencia, 70, will be 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. The Very Rev. Alberto Avella will be the celebrant.

Burial will be p.m., Friday, Jan. 15, at Grants Memorial Park. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 12, at Compassion Mortuary.

Valencia died Jan. 8, 2010, in Grants. She was born March 22, 1939, in Ribera, N.M.

Valencia was retired from the Grants Cibola County Schools.

Survivors include her husband, Teodolo “Ted” Valencia of Grants; children, Jeffery Valencia of Santa Fe, Clifford T. Valencia of Grants, Ruth Valencia of Grants, Sandy T. Valencia of Grants; brother, Jose Ruben Medina of Raton; sisters, Celia Montoya of Butte, Mont., Clorinda Montoya of Ribera, N.M., Josephine Gonzales of Socorro; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Valencia was preceded in death by her parents, Jose C. Medina and Escolastica Augilar Medina; brothers, Antonio Medina, Carlos Medina; sister, Felice Griego.
