GALLUP — New Mexico State Police based in Gallup made more DWI arrests last year than officers anywhere else in the state, according to statistics released Monday by the New Mexico Department of Public Safety.

NMSP District 6 covers McKinley County and parts of Cibola and San Juan counties. Officers assigned to District 6 made 631 DWI arrests during 2009, an increase of more than 220 over 2008. That’s about 50 more arrests than were made in District 5, which includes all of Bernalillo and Valencia counties, and parts of Cibola, Torrance, Sandoval, Santa Fe and Los Alamos counties.
