Obits clerk – Vacant – Full-time position

The Gallup Independent, a family-owned afternoon daily newspaper located in the capital of Indian Country in western New Mexico, is seeking an obituary clerk.

This job calls for a professional who is compassionate and understanding with an attention for detail. Obituaries can be difficult for grieving families to fill out and submit, the clerk will facilitate submission of forms and reassure families that obituaries will be published in a timely manner. In addition to assisting families with obituaries, clerk will type and prepare community announcements/calendar, type public county records and police call logs for publication. This job requires basic typing skills and a desire to learn and grow using InDesign. Upon hire, employee will learn to design the Obituary page and will familiarize themselves with the Independent’s writing style. Circumstance may require more contributions.

The Gallup Independent offers full benefits as this is a full-time job. Upon hire, employee must meet 40 hours a week. A reliable, punctual professional who can work with little to no supervision is the ideal candidate for this position.
