Avis Farmer

GALLUP — Funeral services for Avis Carroll Farmer, 88, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 6, at Rollie Mortuary. Very Rev. Lawrence O'Keefe will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-4:30 p.m. today, April 5, at Rollie Mortuary.

Farmer died April 1 in Gallup. She was born May 7, 1918 in Durango, Colo.

Farmer was a housewife, business owner, and a resident of Gallup for 60 years. She belonged to Eastern Star and her hobbies included ceramics, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters, Kaye Gruda of Santa Fe and Janice Horsley of Gallup; sisters, Iris Murphy, Helen Luckett, and Phyllis Whitney, all of Phoenix; seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.E. "Ed" Farmer; son, Eddie Farmer; daughter, Judith Rothmeyer; parents, J.A. Whitney and Helm Whitney; sister, Lorraine Klink; brothers, J.A. Whitney Jr. and Bill Whitney.

Pallbearers will be Frank Rothmeyer, Frankie Rothmeyer, Steve Gruda, Dr. Bob Gruda, Patrick Horsley, and Nathan Gruda.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Farmer home in Crestview Acres.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Guy Begay

PINION — Funeral services for Guy Begay, 78, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 6, at Pinon Dove Springs Church of God Holiness. Eugene Cody will officiate. Burial will be in the family plot in Pinon.

Begay died April 2 in Pinon. He was born Oct. 29, 1928 in Pinon into the Tangle People Clan for the Bitterwater People Clan.

Begay was retired from the Union Pacific Railroad. He was a rancher and his hobbies included wood carving, herding sheep, fixing vehicles and playing with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Julia Begay; sons, Roy Begay and George Begay, both of Pinon, and Roger Begay of Gallup; daughters, Rosie Begay of Pinon, Nellie Watson, Helena Phillips, and Lori Mailboy of Showlow; brothers, Thomas Mike Begay and Robert Begay, both of Pinon, Joe T. Begay of Many Farms and Art Begay of Whitecone; sisters, Rita Yazzie, Maggie Begay, and Francine Yates, all of Pinon, Lola Begay of California, and Lucinda Begay of Chandler; 28 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Begay was preceded in death by his son, Nelson Begay; parents, Bekay Begay and Susie Begay; brother, Bobby Begay.

Pallbearers will be George Begay, Roy Begay, Demetri Begay, Skyler Begay, Jake Begay, Christopher Begay, Derek Begay

The family will receive relatives and friends at Pinon Dove Springs Church of God Holiness.

Emma Silversmith-Begay

BURNTWATER — Funeral services for Emma L. Silversmith-Begay, 82, will be at 10 a.m., Friday, April 6 at the LDS Church in Sanders. Boyd Silversmith will officiate. Burial will be on the family plot in Burntwater.

Visitation will be 7 to 9 a.m., April 6 at the LDS Chapel.

Begay died April 1 in Gallup. She was born August 25, 1924 in Burntwater.

Begay was employed with the Spurlocks family, Curios Store, and Burntwater Trading Post. She served on CAC and belonged to the Lions Club in Sanders. Her hobbies included cooking, horseback riding, sheepherding, raising livestock and sewing.

Survivors include sons, Paul J. Begaye, Thomas N. Begay, and James L. Begay; daughter, LaVerna J. Begaye; brother, George T. Silversmith II; sister, Marian S. Fisher; 18 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Jones Begay; sons, Perry J. Begay and Lawrence Begay; daughter, Elvoria Begay; parents, George T. Silversmith Sr. and Margret Ashley Silversmith; brother, Bob Silversmith; sister, Betty L. Silversmith; grandparents, Yanabah Ashley, Tsee'adodi, Hastiin Beesh Biwoo, and Asdzaantso.

Pallbearers will be Randin Begay, Herman Silversmith, Vinnie Begay, James Begay Jr., Herbert Begay Jr., and Wydale Silversmith.

Cope Memorial is in charge of arrangements.


Frankie Charlie Jr.

HAYSTACK, NM — Funeral services for Frankie Charley Jr., 25, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 6, at the Prewitt Assembly of God Church. Pastor Edward King will officiate. Burial will follow in Thoreau Cemetary.

Charley died March 31 in Haystack. He was born Dec. 2 in Gallup into the Red Running Into Water People Clan for the Sage Brush Hill People Clan.

Charley attended Grants High School. He was employed with Wal-Mart in Grants and Mt. Taylor Millwork in Milan. He also did silversmithing and landscaping. His hobbies included playing basketball and football, horseback riding, hiking and four wheeling.

Survivors include his wife, Adelle Yazzie Charley of Prewitt; son, Frank Charley of Prewitt; daughters, Frandale Charley, Isabelle Charley, and Jasmine Charley, all of Prewitt; parents, Frankie Charley Sr. of Grants and Shirley Padilla of Haystack; brothers, John J. Martinez of Grants, Kenrick Ramone, Colby Ramone, Shelby Ramone and Amory Begay, all of Haystack, Leland Charley, Nicky Charley, Marvin Charley, all of Grants, and Franklin Charley of Littlewater; sisters, Sherlisa Johnson, Shinate Begaye, Shante Begay, all of Haystack, Lisa Charley, Krystin Charley and Verissa Charley, all of Grants, Darlene Charley, Marlene Charley, and Arlene Charley, all of Little Water, and Calandra Charley of Iyanbito; grandmother, Mae V. Martinez of Haystack.

Charlie was preceded in death by grandparents, Joe F. Martinez, Frank Charley and Lillian Charley.

Pallbearers will be John J. Martinez, Frankie Charley Sr., Colby Ramone, Shelby Ramone, Terry Vandever, and Deano Delgarito.

A reception will be at the Baca Chapter following services.

Wilfred Begay

WHEATFIELDS — Graveside services for Wilfred Tulley Begay, 40, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 6, in the family plot in Wheatfields. Father Blane Grein, OFM, will officiate.

Begay died April 1, in Ft. Defiance. He was born January 20, 1967 in Lukachukai, Ariz into the Big Water People Clan for the Red Bottom People Clan.

Begay attended Window Rock Schools. He worked for IHS in Ft. Defiance and for the Window Rock School District. He was a rancher at the time of his death.

Survivors include his sons, Tyrone Tulley Begay, Tyler Tulley Begay, and Daniel Tulley Begay, all of Sawmill, Ariz.; daughters, Annarita Begay and Rochelle Lee, both of Sawmill; mother, Ann J. Begay of Wheatfields; brothers, Curtis T. Begay, Edward T. Begay and Charles T. Begay; sisters, Marie Begay, Ruth Ann Begay, Catherine Tom and Gabriella Begay; two grandchildren.

Begay was preceded in death by his father, Tulley Begay Sr.; brother, Tulley Begay Jr.; sister, Annie Rose Francisco; grandmother, Eva John.

Pallbearers will be Curtis T. Begay, Charles T. Begay, Edward T. Begay, Paul Begay, Tridtan Nez, Trumond Tom, Terry Arnold, and James Deschine.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Tsaile/Wheatfields Chapter House.
