GRANTS On Saturday, April 14, the city of Grants
will roll up its sleeves tand tackle trash and garbage.
It's all a part of New Mexico's Great American Cleanup campaign,
and the City of Grants has been participating for the past six years
in this annual event that precedes the summer season.
Roberta Martinez, project coordinator, said, "In the past we
have set out dumpsters for the public to use to place trash in.
This year we're organizing volunteers to go out into the community
and clean up certain areas that could use it."
The city is looking for volunteers, including individuals, church
groups, civic groups and others that may be interested in helping
out areas around the city. Martinez said, "One of the areas
that needs cleanup is at the Candelaria sports complex out near
the golf course and over by the side of Smith's grocery up on Roosevelt."
Council members of Grants may participate as well. Martinez said,
"I'll do a reminder memo for the council and hopefully we'll
see them out there too."
The city will provide trash bags and gloves for the cleanup that
will hopefully, according to Martinez, will arrive in time for the
project. The cleanup will get underway at 8 a.m. and run until 1
p.m., and the city will provide six dumpsters around town.
The dumpster locations will be at Fire Station #1 on High Street;
Fire Station #2 on Truman Avenue; San Jose Park on San Jose Drive;
MOC Park on Lobo Canyon Road; the Grants Police Department on Roosevelt
Avenue and at the Candelaria Sports Complex.
Persons interested in being a part of Grants' Great American Cleanup
can call 287-7927 and ask for Roberta Martinez.
