Valvina Tso

DALTON PASS — Funeral services for Valvina Rose Tso, 24, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7 at the Lighthouse Assembly of God in Crownpoint. Pastor Carlos A. Baki will officiate. Burial will follow at Nahodishgish family plot.

Tso died Aug. 2, 2007 in Gallup. She was born July 21, 1983 in Gallup.

Tso graduated from Crownpoint High School in 2002. She attended University of Colorado and High-Tech Institute. Tso was enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was employed with Chicksaw Indian Nation as a probate clerk. She enjoyed reading books, listening to music, and exercising.

Survivors include her daughter, Dyanni Jade Choyou; parents, Ted and Victoria James; brothers, Lyman Tsosie and Vernon R. Tso; sister, Shondelle James.

Tso was pleaded in death by her grandparents, Lois and Ned McCray, Sr.

Pallbearers will be Vernon R. Tso, Bobby Morgan, Cordell Henry, George Choyou, Robby McCray, and Ross Johnson, Jr.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Nahodishgish Chapter.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.


Jonah Yazzie

BLACK HOUSE VALLEY, N.M. — Funeral services for Jonah Kee Yazzie, 20 will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7 at the Pentecostal Church at Sheepsprings. Evangelist Al Watchman will officiate. Burial will be at the Community Cemetery in Naschitti.

Yazzie died Aug. 3, 2007 in Farmington. He was born March 19, 1987 in Gallup into the Salt People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Yazzie attended Sheepsprings pre-school and Newcomb High School. He enjoyed outdoors, sheep herding, horseback riding, fishing, cooking out, and picking on his teachers. Yazzie had numerous pets, but “Bones” was his favorite. He was a wrestling fan of the Ultimate Warrior and played numerous sports. Yazzie was known by “Jordist”.

Survivors include his daughter, Jaidean Lenae Yazzie of Two Grey Hills; parents, Juanita Yazzie of Black House Vallley and Jones Yazzie, Sr. of Shiprock; sisters, Jovita Yazzie of Sheepsprings and Jovita Yazzie of Black House Valley; grandparents, Keeyah and Alice Yazzie of Sheepsprings.

Yazzie was preceded in death by his brother, Lee Vern Roanhorse, Jr.; grandparents, Thomas H. and Anita Begay; great-grandparents, John and Sally Bryant.

Pallbearers will be Llewellyn Peshlakai, Andricson Dez, Anderson Dez, Jr., Ronnie Begay, Marcus Benally, Mitch Benally, Matthew Benally and Mervin Jones.

A reception will be at the Sheepsprings Chapter House following the services.


Anne Schoonhagen

GALLUP — Memorial services for Anne C. Schoonhagen, 95, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7 at Little Sisters of the Poor. Rev. Robert Byker will officiate.

Schoonhagen died Aug. 4, 2007 in Gallup. She was born March 18, 1912 in Rochestrer, N.Y. Schoon-hagen moved to Gallup in 1995.

Survivors include his daughter, Elaine Stam; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Schoon-hagen was preceded in death by her husband, John Schoonhagen; son, Kenneth J. Schoonhagen.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Little Sisters of the Poor following services.
Donations may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Jimmy James

Masonic funeral services for Jimmy C. James, 82, will be at 10:30 a.m. at the El Mapais Masonic Lodge #71, 1004 W. High St. in Grants. District Deputy Grand Master Ron Holloway will officiate. Viewing will be one hour to services.

Funeral service will then be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8 at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in the Shady Grove Community. Reverend Don Parr will officiate. Burial will follow at Tennehill Cemetery in Pittsburg County, Okla.

James died August 3 in Milan. He was born March 10, 1925 in Stone Chapel, Olka.

James served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was awarded a Silver Star and three Bronze Stars. James was a life member of El Malpais Masonic Lodge #71. He served in the Civil Air Patrol and the NM Mounted Patrol. James was owner and operator of Jimmy’s Radiator and Welding. He was invited to be a welding instructor at the NMSU-Grants Branch. James was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Grants and Central Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Carrah “Bonnie” James of Milan; sons, Ellis James of Milan, Jimmy S. James of Milan, and Jay Paul James of Clovis; daughters, Rebecca Romine of Hatfield, Ark. and Reba Stowe of Buckley, Wash.; brothers, GA James of Muskogee, Okla., Houston James of Bettendorf, Iowa, and ES James of Leesberg, Florida; sister, Elsie Stubbs of Fort Gibson, Okla.; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred James and Vertie Renfroe James; daughter, Reberta James; and a grandchild.

Cope Memorial is in charge of arrangements.


Ernest K. Begay

RAMAH — Funeral services for Ernest K. Begay, 55, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7 at Rollie Mortuary. Burial will follow at the family Plot in Ramah.

Visitation will be from 3-4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6 at Rollie Mortuary.

Begay died Aug. 4 in Zuni. He was born Aug. 15, 1951 in Zuni into the Salt People Clan for the Waters Edge People Clan.

Begay attended Ramah Elementary School, Valley High School, and truck driving school in Wisconsin. He worked as operator/hod carrier, truck driver, and was a member of Labors Union 16. Begay enjoyed family gatherings, boxing, camping, and gardening.

Survivors include his son, Boyd L. Begay of Ramah; daughter, Seana J. Begay of Ramah; mother, Wilhelmina Begay of Ramah; brothers, Michael Begay, Edwin Begay, and Jason Begay all of Ramah, Arthur Begay and Joseph Begay both of Albuquerque; sisters, Lena Buck, Earla Begay, and Eydie Begay all of Ramah; and two grandchildren.

Begay was preceded in death by his wife, Iryne G. Begay; father, Eddie Begay; grandparents, Sam Natonabah, Sr., Thomas and Bertha Lorenzo.Pallbearers will be family members.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Helen Ruth Kelley

Funeral services for Helen Ruth Kelley, 83, were at 10 a.m. Friday, August 3 at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Chapel. Pastor David Richards and Rev. David Reddoch officiated. Burial was in Rest Hills Memorial Park.

Kelley died July 31 in Little Rock, Ark.

Kelley was a World War II Veteran of the Navy Waves. After an Honorable Discharge, she taught school for 40 years. She taught some of those years in Churchrock. Kelley was a two time cancer survivor.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Assembly of God of North Little Rock, 4501 Burrow Drive , North Little Rock, AR 72116.

Survivors include her brother in-law, Paul Z. Henderson of Little Rock, Ark.; several nephews and nieces.
