Edward Smith

GALLUP — Funeral services for Edward Smith, 76, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18 at the Howard Chapel AME Church. Dr. Shiame Okunor will officiate. Burial will follow at the Paradise Cemetery in Kendleton, Texas.

Smith died Aug. 6, 2007 in Gallup. He was born November 28, 1930 in Brownwood, Texas.

Smith came to Gallup in 1973 and was employed with Kachina Packing Co. He then retired from Gallup McKinley County Schools. Smith was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of the Howard Chapel AME Church and the NAACP Gallup Branch.

Survivors include his wife, Dorethea L. Smith of Gallup; sons, Edward Smith, Jr. of Johnstown, Penn.; daughters, Marilyn Johnson of Palm Bay, Fla., Carolyn Harris of Cocoa, Fla., and Terry Edwards of Pensacolo, Fla.; sisters, Doris Gilbeaux of Syracuse, New York and Betty Henry of Sugarland, Texas.

Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Marie Smith; and brother, Roy Smith.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Howard Chapel, 107 E. Wilson.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
