Grants Humane Society grand opening is Saturday

GRANTS — It’ s been a long time coming but this Saturday will mark the official grand opening of the new Animal Advocates in Motion Animal Humane Society office. The group has been working out of their own homes for months and now they have a central location to cater to the needs of the area’s pets and pet owners. CEO, Denise Marinelli is excited about the move.

“Now we can centralize all our efforts and have a single physical location for people to come to with questions about their animals, including obedience training,” she said. The grand opening will take place from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday at their location at 411 Santa Fe Ave. in the Thigpen Investments Plaza just across the street from the Mission Gallery.

“We’ll have a rummage sale to kick things off and will also have a membership drive to get more people signed up for the organization. Volunteers are very important to this type of operation and we have a lot of animal lovers in the county and so far the response has been pretty good, but we can always use more,” Marinelli said. During the grand opening they will have some refreshments available and possibly an animal adopt-a-thon where people who show up can adopt an animal that needs a loving home.

Animal lovers can come and get information and answers to pet care and pets are welcome to attend as well.

“I’m an animal lover, so of course all pets are welcome, dogs, cats, even goldfish. We also have gotten quite a few calls on our dog training classes, not just from the area, but from Albuquerque too, so we welcome everyone who wants to participate. Right now we hold classes once a week, on Tuesday evenings but as we get more people trained as trainers then we hope to expand that schedule to three nights a week,” Marinelli said.
