Some stores, restaurants open on Christmas

By Kevin Killough

GALLUP — Have you made out a list of all you’ll need on Christmas Day? Got enough egg nog? What about paprika for the deviled eggs? You might want to check that list a few times from now until Christmas Eve, because there are very few places open on Christmas Day should you need to pick up something you forgot.

Should you find yourself without milk, soft drinks, or another common item, you may find what you need at one of the area’s many convenience stores. Most of them will be open all day, including Gasman, Giant, Thriftway, 7 to 11, Allsup’s, and Love’s Travel Center. The Mataya’s stores will be open, but may close early if there’s not enough business, so employees can be with their families. You can at least gas up if you’re traveling on the holiday.

If you plan to eat out, you have two choices. Furr’s Family Dining will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. And Denny’s will be open 24 hours. Should you leave the work and hassle of preparing a holiday meal to these restaurants, remember to leave a big tip. They are, after all, working on Christmas.

Wal-Mart, Shop ‘N Save, and Albertson’s will be open until 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. After that, you will have until 9 p.m. to head over to Safeway. All grocery stores will be closed on Christmas Day.
