Staff Writer

GALLUP — An eclectic mix of paintings, photography, pottery, jewelry, drawings, fiber art, and live music will be featured in tonight's February Arts Crawl.

arthaus, located at 307 E. Hill, will feature artwork and pottery from the private collection of artist Jutta Stownawski. The reception at arthaus is held early, from 5 to 7 p.m., so Arts Crawl patrons can stop by before attending the Coal Avenue receptions at 7 p.m.

Stownawski invites all artists, from beginning art students to professionals, to stop in to talk with her about showing their work at arthaus. Stownawski exhibits work free of charge as a way of promoting local artists and promoting the Arts Crawl in the community. She can be contacted at (505) 726-8027.

Student architectural designs by fifth graders at Juan de Onate Elementary will be on display in the windows of High Mesa Bikes and Gear, 123 W. Coal. Math teacher Nichol Albertson and art teacher Steve Heil led students in an integrated program, and students created bubble diagrams, floor plans, and scale models. Architectural designs by Skyler Reeder, Xavier Chavez, Vernon Holly, and Mayme Dean are on display.

The remaining Arts Crawl receptions will begin at 7 p.m., with most concluding at 9 p.m.

The Coffee House, 203 W. Coal, will host a reception for Be Sargent's exhibit, "Chasing Color Continued." The show features Sargent's colorful acrylic landscapes.

Crashing Thunder Gallery, 228 W. Coal, will feature a show of photographs by Bill D'luhy during a reception from 7-10 p.m.

The House of Lyndon, owned by Navajo jeweler Lyndon Tsosie, will be open in its new location at 227 W. Coal. The gallery will feature original jewelry designs by Tsosie, paintings by Richard Maldonado, and photographs by Jeri Joanna Poletto. Although The House of Lyndon is now open, its grand reopening celebration is scheduled for next month.

Michael's Jewelry Workshop, 205 W. Coal, will feature jewelry designs by Leaf Ashley, Michael Schmaltz, and Frances "Pancha" Martinez. In addition, the reception will feature designs by Tri- Color Gold of Guadalajara, Mexico.

Vital Connections, located inside The Frame Shop at 222 W. Coal, will continue to show the wearable fiber art of Karen Levine, the featured artist of the month. Levine, from Pittsburgh, Pa., opened her show of original clothing and accessories last weekend. In addition, Vital Connections will have an exhibit of beaded earrings, dream catchers, and other original designs by Rachel Tso, pottery and watercolors by David Montelongo, watercolors by Mary Jane Milz, oil paintings by Greg Collison, and beadwork by Lawrence Olson.

Yazzie's Indian Art, 232 W. Coal, will have extended hours for the Arts Crawl and will offer a Valentine's sale for Arts Crawl patrons.

In addition to the art show receptions, Coal Street Pub, 303 W. Coal, will feature live music this evening with the Back Porch Band. The group is slated to perform from 7 p.m. to about 9:30 p.m.
