GALLUP Police are investigating the sudden death of a 3-month-old
baby early Friday morning, according to a spokesman for the Gallup
Police Department.
Emergency personnel were called to a residence at the 900 Block
of Cerrito Drive at about 5 a.m. in reference to an infant who stopped
breathing. The baby was transported to a local hospital where he
was pronounced dead and was later identified as Cristen Joshua Plummer,
Capt. John Allen of the Gallup Police Departmentsaid.
The baby's mother told police she had been sleeping with the infant
and her 4-year-old child when she noticed he was not breathing.
The baby was reportedly in good condition when the mother fed him
at about 2 a.m., Allen said.
Authorities obtained a warrant to search the residence and found
"nothing out of the ordinary." Allen said detectives do
not suspect foul play was involved in the baby's death, but will
continue to investigate the case until foul play can be ruled out.
"Anytime a baby is found deceased and is not under direct medical
care, it calls for an investigation," he said. The baby will
be transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Albuquerque
to determine an official cause of death.
Juveniles arrested on property damage charges
Two Gallup teenagers were booked into the juvenile detention center
on allegations that they sprayed graffiti on a Coal Avenue business.
Clint Cole, 15, and Marquise Estrada, 15, are facing felony property
damage charges after police reportedly witnessed them vandalize
a Rico Auto Complex building at 500 E. Coal Ave. at about 3 a.m.
Monday.
Estrada was wearing a mask and had a plastic gun in his possession,
Allen said.
Anyone with information about other acts of vandalism, is asked
to call Gallup detectives at (505)863-9365.
