Phillip Nez
TWIN BUTTES Funeral services for Phillip
Nez, 101, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 11 at Cope Memorial.
Burial will follow at Gallup City Cemetery.
Nez died June 6 in Gallup. He was born July 15, 1905 in Naschitti
into the Saline Water People Clan for the Tangle People Clan.
Nez was a well-known medicine man, lifelong resident of Twin Buttes,
and a member of the Red Rock Chapter. He enjoyed herding sheep
and helping others.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Naswood; sons, Tom Nez of Belen,
NM, Arcenio Nez of Tohajiilee, and Bobby Nez of Mentmore; daughters,
Anna Mitchell and Ruby Lameman, both of Little Water, NM, Mary
Nez Begay of Borrego Pass, Nora Romero of Albuquerque, and Eleanor
Nez, Charlene Nez, and Ella Nez, all of Mentmore; 19 grandchildren;
seven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Nez was preceded in death by his daughter, Anita Nez.
Pallbearers will be Ira Watuema, Shawn Nez, Gabriel Nez, Rachel
Smith, Raven Smith, and Maureen Bill.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Red Rock Chapter
House following services.
Cope Memorial is in charge of arrangements.

GRANTS Services for John W. Yazzie, 87,
will be announced at a later date. Yazzie died June 8, in Grants.
He was born July 15. 1919 in China Springs, NM.
A family meeting will be at 6 p.m. Monday, June 11 at the Thoreau
Chapter House.
Compassion is in charge of arrangements.
Joseph Curman
TWIN LAKES Funeral services for Joseph
"Joe" Curman, 93, will be announced at a later date.
Curman died June 8 in Gallup. He was born July 4, 1913 in Twin
Lakes.
Cope Memorial is in charge of arrangements.
