Eddie Arviso, Jr.

GALLUP — Memorial services for Eddie Arviso, Jr., 29, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 16 at St. Francis Church in Gallup. Burial will follow on private land.

Arviso, Jr. died June 12, 2007. He was born March 1, 1978 in Fresno, Calif.

Arviso, Jr. enjoyed practicing free writing, spending time with family and friends, cooking, listening to music, watching the Angels play, and making people laugh.

Survivors include his sons, Gabriel Eli Arviso Torrez of Gallup and Eddie Arviso, III; daughter, Karina Martinez of Tustin, Calif.; step-daughters, Vanessa and Andrea Torrez of Gallup; mother, Victoria Velardez of Santa Ana, Calif.; sisters, Arlene Arviso, of Anahiem, Calif. and Christine Arviso of Buena Park, Calif.

Arviso, Jr. was preceded in death by his father, Eddie Arviso, Sr.; grandparents, Ned Arviso, Edward Anderson, Sr., Odesbah Anderson.


Nelson Platero

TOHAJIILEE — Funeral services for Nelson Platero, 77, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 16 at Chief Cornerstone Church in Tohajiilee. Tom Willeto will officiate. Burial will follow at Tohajiilee Community Cemetery.

Platero died June 12, 2007. He was born Nov. 10, 1930 in Borrego Pass, NM into the Zia People Clan for the Water Edge People Clan.

Platero retired from the Water and Sanitation Dept. in Crownpoint after 25 years of service. He was a Tohajiilee Chapter Official from 1970-1974 and a Community School Board member in the 1960's-1970's. Platero also was a rancher who tended to his ranch and livestock. and attended church.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes Platero of Tohajiilee; sons, Leonard Platero, Harrison Platero, Wilburt Platero all of Tohajiilee, and Paul Platero of Mescalero; daughters, Sarah Lucero, Tara Platero, and Linda Dee all of Tohajiilee; brothers, Lorenzo Platero, Herbert Platero, Arthur Platero all of Tohajiilee, and Frank Begay of Borrego Pass; sisters, Lucy Tyler, Lucille Platero, Joann Watauma all of Tohajiilee, and Alice Miller of Borrego Pass, 26 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

Platero was preceded in death by his parents, Ak na bah Platero and Lorencito Platero; brothers, Raymond Platero, Manuel Platero, Phillip Platero, and Tom Begay.

Pallbearers will be Brian Platero, Leonard Platero, Jr., Rufus Sago, Matthew Loya, Seth Abeita, Ben Lucero, and Matthew Edwards.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the family residence in Tohajiilee.


Jimmy Benally, Jr.

SHIPROCK — Services for Jimmy Paul Benally, Jr., 38, will be announced at a later date.

Benally, Jr. died June 14 in Hogback, NM. He was born Oct. 29, 1968 in Shiprock.


Christine Blatchford Paquin

GALLUP — Services for Christine Blatchford Paquin, 80, will be announced at a later date.

Paquin died June 14, 2007 in Gallup. She was born Sept. 3, 1926 in Red Rock, Ariz.

A family gathering will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16 at the West Mesa Assembly of God Church.

Tse Bonito Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
