Man hurt in fight

By Leslie Wood

GALLUP — A man was flown to a Phoenix hospital early Sunday morning for treatment of injuries he sustained during a fight outside a local bar.

Erin Toadlena-Pablo, a spokeswoman for the Gallup Police Department, said Herrace Johnson is in "very critical condition" and is being treated for swelling in his brain. Johnson was reportedly involved in an altercation outside the Class Act Bar at about 2 a.m. Witnesses provided police with little information about the beating, but did say Johnson's attackers were male and Hispanic.

Police have no suspects in connection with the case, Toadlena-Pablo said.

Assault charges
A 29-year-old Gallup man was arrested on Sunday night for allegedly threatening residents of a local trailer park with a knife.

Arnold Duboise was booked into the McKinley County Adult Detention on charges that include aggravated assault at about 6 p.m.

Toadlena-Pablo said Duboise was threatening to "poke" residents of the Hillcrest Trailer Park, 2410 E. Aztec Ave., with a knife. Residents informed police about the threats and provided them with a detailed description of the suspect who was later identified as Duboise. Authorities later apprehended Duboise at the Blue Spruce Motel. No injuries were reported.

Crash probe
Police are continuing to investigate the March 23 crash that killed a 52-year-old Gallup mother. The victim was identified as Nancy Natanabah.

The fatal crash occurred when the driver of a green pickup traveling westbound along Mendoza Road passed a blue passenger car and a brown pickup truck. During the maneuver, the brown pickup veered off the roadway and the driver of the blue passenger car lost control of the vehicle.

The blue passenger car subsequently traveled into the eastbound lane and struck the white passenger car that was driven by Natanabah. Natanabah died at the scene and the driver of the blue passenger car was flown to Albuquerque for treatment.

The driver of the green pickup is a student at Gallup High School. He reportedly told police he was late to take a test at the school. Toadlena-Pablo said she will release the name of the driver of the green pick-up if criminal charges are filed against him in connection with the accident. A police report about the crash has not been completed. Toadlena-Pablo said detectives are working to reconstruct the scene of the crash to determine the cause and if criminal charges are warranted.
