Groceries, dinner available on holiday

By Kevin Killough

GALLUP — It happens every year. It’s Thanksgiving Day, relatives are arriving, and there are a million things to do in the kitchen. Despite all your careful grocery shopping before the holiday, you realize you’re out of paprika, or milk, or butter — something. Or perhaps you’d rather enjoy the holiday with your family without all the work that goes into preparing a great Thanksgiving meal. With so many places closed, where do you go to find what you need on the holiday?

Fortunately, there are many options. For groceries, Albertson’s and Safeway will both be open until 5 p.m. After those stores close, you can make a trip to the Wal-Mart Supercenter, which will be open until midnight. All three locations of the Shop N’ Save will be closed.

For those quick convenience store items, both Allsup’s and 7 to 11 stores will be open their regular hours. You can also gas up before the drive home if you’re driving in from out of town.

Those who would rather leave the cooking to someone else also have a few choices. Both Denny’s locations will be open 24 hours through Thursday. The Golden Coral will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Grandma Max’s restaurant at the Pilot Truck Stop will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. And The El Rancho Restaurant will open its doors at 6 a.m. and stay open until 4 p.m.

Unfortunately, should you have any home repairs to do on Thanksgiving, they’ll have to wait until Friday. Home Depot will be closed all day on Thanksgiving.
