September Arts Crawl offers art, food, music

GALLUP Downtown Gallup will have it all on
Saturday night during the September Arts Crawl art, music,
food, and drama.
The Gallup Performing Arts Center will kick things
off with a reception from 3 to 6 p.m., and the remaining Coal Street
galleries and businesses will begin their receptions at either 6
or 7 p.m. Here is a list of scheduled events:
GPAC
The work of local artist Greg Collison will continue to be on exhibit
at the Gallup Performing Arts Center, 1500 S. 2nd St., during the
month of September. GPAC will host a reception for Collisons
A Repercussion of the 60s, an exhibit of oil paintings,
pen and ink drawings, and watercolors, from 3-6 p.m.
The Coffee House
Muralist and landscape painter Be Sargent will be showing First
Oils, a show of oil paintings at The Coffee House, 203 W.
Coal. According to Sargent, who has been painting in the Candy Kitchen,
N.M. area since 1993, all the landscapes in the show were painted
outdoors and usually in one sitting. Sargents reception will
run from 6 to 9 p.m.
Crashing Thunder
Crashing Thunder Gallery, 228 W. Coal, will host a reception for
Kelsey Billiman, a young artist from Gallup. Billiman will be exhibiting
a collection of paintings that she creates with hand ground sand.
Crashing Thunder receptions usually run from 7 to 10 p.m.
House of Lyndon
Gallery owner Lyndon Tsosie will have a number of events running
during his 6 to 9 p.m. reception at the House of Lyndon, 227 W.
Coal. In addition to hosting a reception for a number of artists,
the gallery will be filming a commercial, and Arts Crawl patrons
may find themselves in the middle of the film shoot. Featured artists
include painter Garrett Brennan Stewart, textile artist Kristin
Carlsen Rowley, potter Damon Tso, painter Elriggs Allen, painter
Jerry Brown, and jeweler and gallery owner Lyndon Tsosie. The Lexington
Quartet is scheduled to provide live music.
Makeshift Gallery
The wire work jewelry of Jennifer Boots-Marshall will be featured
this month at Makeshift Gallery Artists Co-op, 211 W. Coal. The
co-op, which will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., also sells handmade
soaps and candles, pottery, watercolors, jewelry, note cards, and
photographs. Arts Crawl patrons who purchase more than $10 worth
of merchandise will receive a 10 percent discount on their next
purchase.
Michaels Studio
Michaels Studio 205, located at 205 W. Coal, will host the
work of a number of different artists in its 7 to 9 p.m. reception.
Mural painter Eric Leon Sarracino will exhibit paintings from his
Gallup Hispanics Exhibition of Mural Components.
Rossi Bright will show her acrylic paintings, Michael Schmaltz and
Leaf Ashley will show their original fine art jewelry, and E.A.
Morris, Frances Martinez, and Raven Bright will show their beaded
jewelry.
Open Studio Project
Recent paintings by Jay Dickens, Arnold Nelson, and Floyd Nelson
will be on exhibit at the Open Studio Project, which is located
through the back entrance of 211/213 W. Coal. Arts Crawl patrons
can visit the studio, which will be open from 7 to 9 p.m., via the
alleyway entrance near the Downtown Walkway.
Vital Connections
Vital Connections, located inside The Frame Shop at 222 W. Coal,
participates in the Arts Crawl each month. However, information
about the gallerys September show was not available by press
time.
Yazzies Indian Art
Although Yazzies Indian Art, 235 W. Coal, does not have a
special show planned for September, the gallery will have extended
hours on Saturday evening for Arts Crawl Patrons.
Coal Street Pub
Rusty Strings and the Flat Tones will provide live music at the
Coal Street Pub, 303 W. Coal.
El Morro Theatre
The Gallup Christian Center will be sponsoring a play, Twice
Dead, at El Morro Theatre, 207 W. Coal. Admission is free.
