Noise maker: Grants High School volunteer Gilbert Gamboa fires off a canon to start the Grants Pirates homecoming game on Friday night in Grants. Gamboa has been firing off the cannons for the Pirates football team since they started the tradition over seven years ago. Gamboa said the booster club had the cannons made for the games because there just was not enough ambient noise to liven up the crowd at the football games. [Photo by Matt Hinshaw/Independent]
