Gallup business owner wins $10,000
raffle By Gaye Brown de Alvarez McGAFFEY Its all for the animals. A large crowd of animal lovers and their pets convened at the ZlazyB Ranch Saturday night for the 2008 Bow Meow Fest to dance, eat barbecue and raise money for the Gallup/McKinley Humane Society. The High Rollers of Albuquerque provided the music, and the roast beef and enchiladas was catered by the ranch. The clouds threatened to open but didnt, and everyone had a great time. Many brought their dogs. There was a dog wedding between a black lab named Cheyenne in a wedding dress and her standard poodle groom named Cisco, dressed in a tuxedo. There was a doggie fashion show. Many of the models were animals that were up for adoption at the Humane Society, and they really strutted their stuff on the doggie runway lined up between the tables. The $10,000 reverse raffle was won by Gallup resident Morgan Newsom. Daryl and Nellie Long of Gallup won $500, Sally Graham of Gallup won $250, Terry Proffitt and Jackie McKinney, both of Gallup won $100, Sandra McKinney sold the most tickets so she won $500 and Donna Ward sold the selling ticket so she won $250. The amount raised was not immediately available, but Cosy Balok of the Humane Society was thrilled that the silent auction raised a lot of money, and added that the Vera Wang bed donated by Castle Furniture was auctioned for $1,300. |
