NRC public comment meeting tomorrow

GRANTS — The United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission has announced an open house and public comment meeting to be held in Grants this week.

On Tuesday the commission will conduct the session to accept comments on the Draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement for In-Situ Leach Uranium Milling Facilities. In-situ is one of the uranium extraction methods being considered for use in the Grants area.

The Draft GEIS addresses environmental concerns and potential impacts from phases of in-situ uranium leach mining including construction, operation, aquifer restoration and decommissioning of the in-situ leach milling plants.

A copy of the Draft GEIS is now available online at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc
collections/nuregs/staff/sr1910/. Public comments and questions are encouraged throughout the meeting.

The meeting will be at the Best Western Inn and Suites in Grants. Open house is from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The meeting is scheduled from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Interested parties can download an agenda at
