FORT WINGATE — Eric Keith Draven, 25, was arrested Sunday on one count of battery against a household member after a family spat that wounded his wife and himself.

Draven’s wife said she was making dinner when her hand slipped and she knocked the lid to a cooker toward her husband, who became upset, according to McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy Rocky Klein’s report.

Draven’s wife said Draven then hit her twice in the face and pushed her, according to the report. Draven apparently nodded to confirm his wife’s story but added that the couple had been arguing previously.

Klein describes finding fingernail scratches on Draven’s chin, neck and arms. Medical personnel were called to clean and bandage a laceration above Draven’s wife’s eyebrow. She is also described as having a bump on her forehead and bruising on her face.
