Antonia Cordova
ALBUQUERQUE Funeral Mass for Antonia (Toni) Cordova, 82,
will be 9 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the Our Lady of the Most
Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna, N.W. Interment will
follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30- 7 p.m.,
Monday, Sept.22, at the church. A rosary to be recited at 7 p.m.,
at the Church. Carmen Montano will officiate. Final visitation
will be 8:30-9 a.m., Tuesday at the Church.
Cordova died Sept. 18, 2008, in Albuquerque.
Cordova was a member of the Catholic Church, a member of
the Small Christian Community at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary
and an honorary A.C.T.S. sister.
Survivors include her daughters, Roseanne Rodriguez, Irma Tapia;
sisters, Bernice Varrnese, Rosella Madrid; brothers, Aber Madrid,
Raymond Madrid; three grandchildren.
Cordova was preceded in death by her husband, Fermin Cordova;
son, Martin Cordova Sr.; daughter, Antoinette Cordova.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Rodriguez, Leonard Tapia, Antonio
Cordova, Martin Cordova Jr., Teddy Mazon and Aber Madrid.
Mary Charley
LUPTON Services for Mary Jane Charley, 79, were 10 a.m.,
Sept. 20, at St. Evangelist in Houck. The Rev. Cormac Antram O.F.M.,
officiated. Burial were the in family plot.
Charley died Sept. 16, 2008, in Flagstaff. She was born Sept.
20, 1928, in Two Wells, into the Red Streak Wood Forest People
Clan for the Black Sheep People Clan.
Charley attended school in Fort Defiance. She was also a member
of the Catholic Church in Lupton. Charley was a silversmith and
rug weaver. She liked to sew and do beadwork and loved to prepare
meals and tend to her livestock. Charley was a homemaker.
Survivors included her husband, Tom Charley of Lupton; sons,
Herbert Charley of Lupton, Herman Charley of Lupton, Harold Charley
of Lupton, Hamilton Charley of Lupton; daughters, Jane Yazzie
of Lupton, Rebecca Yazzie of Mentmore, Marilyn Yazzie of Lupton,
Janet Benally of Springerville, Theresa Charley of Phoenix; brother,
Pat Smth; sister, Emma C. Burton; 38 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren;
one great-great-grandchild.
Charley was preceded in death by his son, Norman Charley; parents,
John and Alice Smith; brother, Leroy Smith; sister, Betty Smith.
Pallbearers were Henry Yazzie, Olsen Yazzie, Fredrick Yazzie,
Darrell Yazzie, Norman Benally, Stanley Silversmith.
Rollie Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Mattie Chavis
LUKACHUKAI Funeral services for Mattie M. Chavis, 98,
were 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 19, at the Faith Mission Church 702
Mission St. Gallup. The Rev. Allen George officiated. Burial was
at Gallup City Cemetery.
Chavis died Sept. 15, 2008. She was born on May 15, 1910, in
Lukachukai.
Chavis was a member of the Faith Mission Church of Gallup, and
was faithful to reading her bible.
Survivors include her daughter, Lavena Torres of Gallup; four
grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
Chavis was preceded in death by her mother, Martha Notah; brother,
Oliver Chavis; sister, Mary N. Allen; one great-grandson
Pallbearers were Jeremy Marcos Lujan, John Anthony Lloyd, David
Carlos Gomez, Alexander Michael Gomez, Antonio Yazzie, and Eric
Blackwater.
Cope Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Verlinda Kinsel
TSAYATOH Funeral services for Verlinda Kinsel, 29, will
be 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 22, at Rollies Palm Chapel. The
Rev. Harry Domingo Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Gallup
City Cemetery.
Kinsel died Sept. 17, 2008, in Gallup. She was born Feb. 6, 1979,
in Gallup, into the Black Streak Wood People for the One Who Walks
Around People Clan.
Kinsel attended Gallup McKinley County Schools. He was employed
as a cashier in and around the Gallup area. Kinsel enjoyed spending
time with family and love ones.
Survivors include her sons, Stewart Lewis Jr., Shane Chon, Dillion
Chon; daughter, Tiara Chon; parents, Theresa Kinsel, Tommy McCray;
brothers, Arnold Kinsel, Jasper Kinsel, Willard Becenti Jr., Wyatt
Becenti; sister, Renee Becenti; grandparents, Esther Doughlas,
Louise McCray.
Kinsel was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, John
and Etta Wilson, Thomas McCray; grandfathers, Tom Lee, Chee Tom
Lee, Joe John Wilson, Milton H. Kinsel, Bennie Lee.
Pallbearers will be Lester Kinsel, Willard Becenti Jr., Travis
Begay, Wacey Begay, Loren Kinsel.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Tsayatoh Multipurpose
Bldg., Tsayatoh.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Joseph Rubio
ALBUQUERQUE Joseph Steve Rubio, 54, died Saturday,
Sept.13, 2008, in Albuquerque. He was born Oct. 29, 1953, in Los
Angeles, Calif.
Rubio lived the majority of his life in Gallup, where he was
well known as a craftsman and a master of the drywall trade. While
drywall was his physical work, he will be most remembered for
his hard work.
Survivors include his daughter, Eileen Roybal; sons, Steven Rubio,
Andrew Rubio, Adrian Rubio, Joseph Rubio, all of Albuquerque;
mother, Rosalind Boatman of Gallup; brothers, Rick Saraccino of
Gallup, Brian Halloway of Cucamonga, Calif.; sisters, Glinda Sabala
of Ontario, Calif., Denise Campa of Cucamonga, Calif., Bernadette
Lujan of Gallup; eight grandchildren all of Albuquerque.
Rubio was preceded in death his sister, Linda Alexander; one
grandson; one granddaughter.
Sam Slim
LUPTON Funeral services for Sam Slim, 53, will be 10 a.m.,
Monday, Sept. 22, at the Houck Catholic Church. The Rev. Berard
will officiate. Burial will be in Houck Community Cemetery.
Slim died in Lupton. He was born Feb. 4, 1955, in Lupton, into
the Waters Edge People Clan for the Red Running Into the
Water People Clan.
Slim attended Intermountain School, Brigham City, Ut. He worked
at NECA Construction, Speedys Truck Stop, Kingman Truck
Stop. Slim enjoyed mechanical work, socializing, helping people,
and had a certificate in welding,
Survivors include his mother, Geebah Slim; brothers, Benny Slim
Sr., Leonard Slim, Johnny Slim, Jon Francisco, Kenneth Slim, Daniel
Slim; sisters, Nettie Slim, Helen Slim, Minnie Woody, Esther Bodie,
Rita Daye.
Slim was preceded in death by his father, John Slim; grandmother,
Naglee nas Bah.
Pallbearers will be Orlando Becenti, Randall Comb, Shawn Bodie,
Bobby Slim, Kash Tom, Edison Spencer.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Lupton Chapter
House, following services.
Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
