Jalisa J. Ballard

WHITEHORSE — Services are pending for Jalisa J. Ballard, 19.

Ballard died Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, in Whitehorse. She was born May 20, 1989, in Pocatello, Id., into the Mexican People Clan for the Bannock Tribe People Clan.

Wilma Becenti

TOHATCHI — Funeral services for Wilma J. Becenti, 36, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Rehoboth Christian Reformed Church. The Rev. Stanley Jim will officiate. Burial will be in Gallup City Cemetery.

Becenti died Sept. 19, 2008, in Flagstaff. She was born Nov. 7, 1971, in Gallup, into the Mountain Cove People Clan for the Chiricahua Apache People Clan.

Becenti received her high school diploma from Gallup High School in 1990 and earned a B.S. degree from New Mexico State University in Animal Science Pre-Vet in 1994. She was employed by the Navajo Nation EPA for 13 years as a senior environmental specialist; USDA Americorps National Services; and was a veterinarian technician for Gallup Cedar Animal Clinic. In college she was on the NMSU Dean’s List, Crimson Scholar, Alpha Beta Gamma Honor Society, Pre-Vet Club, Sam Steele Society, Chief Manuelito scholar, and NMSU Alumni Association. Becenti served as a volunteer science fair judge for public schools on the Navajo Nation, and Tohatchi Adopt-A-Highway litter control program. She earned awards for excellence with the Navajo EPA Water Quality, and certificates. She was a Hereford cattle grower, sheep producer, horse buyer, and ranch hand.

Survivors include her husband, Bryant R. Becenti; parents, Alice J. Arviso-Bitsie, Leslie Bitsie Sr.; sisters, Winona Bitsie, W.J. Bitsie; brothers, Leland Bitsie, Lloyd Bitsie, Lyn Bitsie,
Leslie Bitsie Jr.

Becenti was preceded in death by her grandparents, Joe J. and Nellie B. Arviso; Leo and Jane Bitsie; great-grandparents, Charley C. and Bah Arviso, Kee and Jane Ortiz Bitsilly.

Pallbearers will be Leland Bitsie, Lloyd Bitsie, Lyn Bitsie, Leslie Bitsie Jr., Jason M. Parrish, Joshua Parrish.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Memorial mean at Gallup National Guard Armory.

MARIANO LAKE — Funeral services are pending for Bryan Lee Charley, 18.

Dallago died Saturday, Sept., 20, 2008, in Mesa. She was born Feb. 25, 1934, in Gallup.

Emerson died Sept. 20, 2008, in Crownpoint. He was born Nov. 29, 1961, in Crownpoint.

Raymundo Garcia

DENVER — Funeral Mass for Raymundo Garcia, 55, will be 10 a.m.,Thursday, Sept. 25, at Sacred Heart Cathedral Church. The Rev. Lawrence O’Keefe will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Garcia died Sept. 9, 2008, in Denver. He was born April 13, 1953, in Gallup.

Survivors include his sons, Gene Garcia, Vincent Chopito, both of Phoenix; sisters, Cecilia Ohnesorgan of Benson, Ariz., Paulinis Macias, Sara Landavazo, both of Gallup; one grandchild.

Garcia was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Rose Garcia; brother, Richard Garcia.

Tranquilino Padilla

GRANTS — Funeral Mass for Tranquilino K. Padilla, 86, will be 10 a.m., Sept. 24, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Burial will be in Grants Memorial Park. The Very Rev. Alberto Avella will be the celebrant. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m., tonight, Sept. 23, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Padilla died Sept. 22, 2008, in Grants. He was born Sept. 19, 1922, in Maquino, N.M.

Padilla was a lifelong resident of Grants and worked for the city of Grants for many years and in the uranium mines. He was also self employed selling snow cones and enjoying doing wood work as a hobby.

Survivors include his wife, Augustina Moya Padilla of Grants; sons, Mel Padilla of San Rafael, Ronnie Padilla of Grants, Ruben Padilla of Grants, Clarence Padilla of Grants, Ernest Padilla of Grants, Steve Padilla of Grants, Victor Padilla of Woodward, Okla.; daughters, Marcella Vigil of Milan, Ida Sanchez of Mesa, Denise Pohl of Grants, Debbie Sanchez of Albuquerque, Geraldine Padilla of Grants; sister, Daisy Saavedera of Grants; 41 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Padilla was preceded in death by his parents, Tranquilino Padilla, Manuelita Trujillo Padilla; daughter, Mary Helen Padilla; brothers, Mino Padilla, Melecio Padilla.

Pallbearers will be Mel Padilla, Ruben Padilla, Clarence Padilla, Ronnie Padilla, Victor Padilla, Steve Padilla, Ernest Padilla.

Cato Sells Sr.

WINDOW ROCK — Funeral services for Cato G. Sells Sr., 94, were 11 a.m., today, Sept. 23, at St. Michaels Catholic Mission. The Rev. Gilbert Schneider, O.F.M., officiated. Burial was in Community Cemetery, St. Michaels. Visitation was10 a.m., one hour prior to services.

Sells died Sept. 20, 2008, in Fort Defiance. He was born Aug. 20, 1914, in Rough Rock.

Sells attended Fort Wingate Boarding School.

Survivors include his sons, Cato G. Sells Jr. of Chinook, Mont., Rudy V. Sells of Winslow; daughters, Paty M. Billison, Elizabeth Sells, both of Window Rock, Theresa Gorman of Ganado, Cynthia A. Floor of Mineral, VA, Arlene F. Floor of Aurora, Colo.; 25 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Sells was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Sells; daughter, Shirley Sells-Teller; parents; brothers; sisters.

Pallbearers will be Sam Billison, William Sells, Berkley Gorman, Vittorio Sells, Paul Sells Jr., John Billison, Eric Gregeris, Asher Gorman.
The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Michael Parish Hall, following services.

Christopher Shorty

CHURCH ROCK — Services are pending for Christopher Shorty, 25.

Shorty died Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, in White Water Canyon. He was born March 2, 1983, in Gallup, into the Meadow People Clan for the Folded Arms People Clan.

Gladys Tsosie

GANADO — Funeral services for Gladys Jean Tsosie, 67, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the All Saints Mission, Ganado. The Rev. Flann O’Niel, OFM, will officiate. Burial will be in the community cemetery, Kinlichee.

Tsosie died Sept. 21, 2008, in Ganado. She was born March 21, 1941, in Kinlichee, into the Towering House People Clan for the Salt People Clan.

Tsosie attended Phoenix Indian School. She worked at Ramon’s Restaurant, Moya’s Inc.. Tsosie enjoyed walking and caring for her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Carl Tsosie Sr. of Ganado; sons, Henry C. Tsosie Jr. of Rough Rock, Michael C. Tsosie of Coyote Canyon, Darryl Tsosie of Farmington; daughters, Sarah Curtis of Kinlichee, Genevieve Curley of Ganado, Cindy Tsosie of Ganado; sisters, Mae Lewis of Cool Field, Ariz., Caroline Tsosie of Kinlichee, Evelyn Lewis of Ganado, Amelia Lewis of Page; 28 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Tsosie was preceded in death by her parents, Hoskie and Ruth Lewis; brother, Wally Lewis; sister, Evangeline Tsosie; daughter, Deborah Lee.

Pallbearers will be family members.
