Driver shot, killed near Sanostee Copyright © 2008 AZTEC A high-speed pursuit that started Saturday around 9:35 a.m. near the 42nd mile marker on U.S. 64 in Kirtland ended near Sanostee with the driver shot dead and the passenger shot and injured, according to FBI spokesman Steve Marshall. The pursuit started when an intoxicated man attempted to purchase alcohol from a Giant convenience store and was refused. Employees notified the San Juan County Sheriffs Department that the man was attempting to drive drunk in a white Pontiac Grand Am. A deputy pursued the Grand Am until it crossed onto the Navajo reservation, at which point NPD intercepted. The chase continued for half an hour on Navajo Road 5010, south of Sanostee and ended with a Navajo Police officer shooting both the driver and the passenger, whose names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. |
