Jalisa Ballard

WHITEHORSE — Services for Jalisa Jean Ballard, 19, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 25, at the Betty Betone Church. The Rev. Leland will officiate. Burial will be in Whitehorse Lake on family private land.

Ballard died Sept. 19, 2008, in Whitehorse. She was born May 20, 1989, in Pocatello, Idaho, into the Mexican People Clan for the Shoshone-Bannock People Clan.

Ballard graduated from high school. Her hobbies included meeting new friends and being with family. She loved to swim, bead, and went to state for discus and was one of only four from her school.

Survivors include her mother, Alberta Ballard, stepfather, Benjamin Maetas of Whitehorse; brothers, Clifton Ballard of Whitehorse; sister, Louchelle Tsosie of Whitehorse; grandfather, Wilford Ballard Sr. of Pocatello, Id.

Ballard was preceded in death by her grandparents, Tom and Jean Tsosie; father, Wade Ballard; brother, Lynn Chamber; grandmother, Leota Ballard.

Pallbearers will be Benjamin Maetas, Troy Sandoval, Cordaryll Tolino, Lashawnte Nez, Chiffon Harrison, Lance Dixon.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Whitehorse Lake Chapter House, following services.

Donations may be made to the family.

Bryon Charley

MARIANO LAKE — Funeral services for Bryon Lee Charley, 18, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 25, at the First Baptist Church, Thoreau. The Rev. Bob Brittain will officiate. Burial will be in Thoreau. Visitation will be 4 p.m., today, Sept. 24, at Cope Memorial Chapel.

Charley died Sept. 21, 2008, in Mariano Lake. He was born Feb. 9, 1990, in Gallup.

Charley graduated from Thoreau High in 2008, in the top of his class. He enlisted as a firefighter in Grants for the summer and became employed at Home Depot as a floor associate. He enjoyed writing songs, playing guitar, listening to music, and going to concerts. He loved making people laugh, spending time with family, and traveling.

Survivors include his parents, Melvin L. Charley, Cheryl A. Platero, both of Mariano Lake; brothers, Melvin Platero of Albuquerque, Marvin Platero of Bluewater, Tyler Charley of Mariano Lake; sisters, Melissa Charley, LeAnn Charley, both of Mariano Lake; grandparents, Louise Benally-Platero, Jimmie A. Charley.

Charley was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ramon Platero and Helen Charley.

Pallbearers will be Philnaldo Platero, Marvin Platero, Nicholas Kien, Davy Desidero, Kyle Begay, and Myles Begay.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Thoreau Chapter House, following services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cope.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Christopher Shorty

CHURCH ROCK — Funeral services for Christopher Shorty, 25, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 25, at Rollie Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. Jake Yazzie, will officiate. Burial will be in Gallup City Cemetery.

Shorty died Sept. 19, 2008, in Chichiltah, N.M. He was born March 2, 1983, in Gallup, into the Meadow People Clan for the Folded Arms People Clan.

Shorty was a self-employed mechanic. His favorite football team was the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed taking care of his kids, fishing, horse back riding, baseball and participating in NAC.

Survivors include his son, Cornaldo Chris Shorty of Chichiltah; daughters, Curtanya Leigh Shorty of Chichiltah; parents, Arnold Peterson of Tohatchi, Irene Peterson of Churchrock; brothers, Arnoldson Peterson, Arnold Peterson Jr. of Churchrock, Preston McCorkey of Churchrock, Sabastian Peterson of Gallup; sisters, Christine Peterson of Churchrock, Lorianna Long-Peterson of Churchrock; grandparents, Jimmie and Rose Begay of Churchrock, Robert Gene Cadman of Yahtahey, Laura Lowe of Tohatchi.

Shorty was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Alice H.Begay; great-great-grandmother, Marita Tsinnijinnie; great-great-grandfather, Tom Etsitty.

Pallbearers will be Luke McCorkey, Benjamin Wheeler, Myron Martin, Terry Lowe, Larry Lowe, Michael Irving.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Churchrock Chapter House, following services.

Edna Spolar

GALLUP — Services are pending for Edna Mae Spolar, 91.

Spolar died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, in Grants. She was born May 25, 1917, in Allison, N.M.

Trudy Tom

IYANBITO — Services are pending for Trudy Rose Tom, 36.

Tom died Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, in Albuquerque. She was born Nov. 10, 1971, in Gallup, into the Black Sheep People Clan.

The family will receive relatives and friends at 5 p.m., tonight, Sept. 24, at the Chichiltah Chapter House.
