Shirley Begay

TOHATCHI — Funeral services for Shirley Mae Miller Begay, 57, will be 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at the Naschitti Christian Reform Church. Jerome Sandoval will officiate. Burial will be in Naschitti Community Cemetery.

Begay died Feb. 8, 2008, in Albuquerque. She was born Jan. 29, 1951, in Naschitti, into the Towering House People Clan for the Two Who Came to the Water People Clan.

Shirley attended Naschitti Elementary, Del NorteHigh School, Albuquerque, and Roswell Community College. She loved sand panting and being with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband Edward E. Begay; sons, Ellison Begay, Elton Begay; daughter, Shirleen Begay; brothers, Ernest Miller of Albuquerque, Anderson Miller of Cortez, Harrison Miller of Fort Defiance, Michael Miller of Naschitti; sisters, Gloria Miller of Naschitti, Linda Miller of Naschitti, Beatrice Wilson of Naschitti; six grandchildren.

Begay was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Marita Miller; brother, Alfred Miller; sister, Rose Mary Miller; grandparents, Edmund and Gertrude Becenti.

Pallbearers will be Harrison Miller, Michael Miller, Patrick Tony, Roy Chee, Emerson Becenti, and Edison Becenti.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Naschitti Chapter House, following service.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge ofarrangements.


Louise Watchman

FORT DEFIANCE — Funeral services for Louise T. Watchman, 89, will be 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at the Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament. Father Gilbert will officiate. Burial will be in Veterans Cemetery, Fort Defiance. Visitation will be 9 a.m., Feb. 15, at the Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament.

Watchman died Feb. 10, 2008, in Fort Defiance. She was born Sept. 12, 1918, in Klagetoh, into the Tangle People Clan for the Black Streak People Clan.

Watchman attended St. Michaels Indian School. Her hobbies included herding sheep, weaving, horseback riding, and farming. She as a rancher and a homemaker.

Survivors include her daughters, Irene T. Watchman, Pauline L. Begay, both of Fort Defiance; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Watchman was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Allen Watchman; parents, Tsinajinie Nez, Klasooh Yellow Lady Yazzie; brothers, John Tsinajinie, Carl Herder; sister, Ason Bah Yazzie; grandson, Virgil Roy Lee, Aldred Willis; daughter, Carlene Watchman.

Pallbearers will be Delbert R. Benally, Bryon Johnson; Ernest Watchman, family members.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Charlene T. Watchman residence, following services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Charlene T. Watchman residence.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.


Charlie Yazzie

COYOTE CANYON — Funeral services for Charlie Mitchell Yazzie, 89, will be 10 a.m. Feb. 15, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Tohatchi.

Father John Mittelstadt, OFM, will officiate. Burial will be in Coyote Canyon. Visitation will be at Rollie Mortuary from 3-4 p.m. A rosary will be recited at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, at 6 p.m.

Yazzie died Feb. 12, 2008, in Gallup. He was born July, 3, 1918, in Coyote Canyon, into the Meadow People Clan for the Red Running into the Water People Clan.

Yazzie attended elementary school at Tohatchi Indian School. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and was a lifelong rancher. He was a member of the New Mexico Cattle Growers Association and an active member of the Catholic Church. Yazzie enjoyed singing traditional songs and going to basketball games to watch his grandchildren play.

Survivors include his wife, Alice B. Yazzie; sons, Benny Yazzie Sr., Jameson Mitchell, both of Coyote Canyon; daughters, Rita Watson of Twin Lakes, Lorraine M. Yazzie of Coyote Canyon, Genevieve Brewer of Coyote Canyon, Jennifer M. Tsosie of Coyote Canyon; brothers, Jonah Mitchell of San Bernadino, Calif.; 31 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren.

Yazzie was preceded in death by Vida Miller, Johle Woody, Julia Becenti, Emma Gibson, Bernice Bowman, Bessie Willie, Angela Chee, Rose Etsitty, Hanabah Begay, Katie Dawes, Eva John, Charlie Sam, Harry Mitchell, Charlie Mitchell.

Pallbearers will be Benny Yazzie Jr., Julio Mitchell, O’Bryan Mitchell, Cornell Iyua, Todd Tso, and Corwin Iyua.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Coyote Canyon Chapter House, following services.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Andrew Jones

FORT DEFIANCE — Funeral services for Andrew Lee Jones, 55, will be 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at the Chinle Potter House, Chinle. Visitation will be at the service.

Jones died Feb. 9, 2008, in Fort Defiance. He was born Nov. 24, 1952, in Chinle, into the Coyote Pass People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Jones attended Chinle District #24 from grade school to high school. He was employed with Frontier Phone Company.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Jones of Crystal; sons, Al-Drew Jones of San Diego, Al-Tyson Jones of Crystal, Augie Jones of Crystal; daughters, April Jones of Navajo, Andrea Jones of Korea; father, Dan Jones of Crystal; brothers, Anderson Jones of Chinle, Larry Jones of Chinle, Jimmie Jones of Kayenta, Harrison Jones of Gallup, Dennison Jones of Chinle; one grandchild.

Jones was preceded in death by his mother, Tonita Jones; brother, Humpty Jones.

Pallbearers will be Michael Tsosie, Lenny Jones, Al-Drew Jones, Al-Tyson Jones, Jefferson Jones, and Choel Tachine.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Chinle Chapter House, following services.

Jerry Miles

FORT DEFIANCE — Services for Jerry Louis Miles, 70, will be 10 a.m. Feb. 15, at the Fort Defiance Presbyterian Church. Pastor Roger Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Fort Defiance. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.

Miles died Feb. 10, 2008, in Fort Defiance. He was born Feb. 8, 1938, in Fort Defiance, into the Big Water People Clan for the Many Goats People Clan.

Miles attended Fort Defiance BIA school, and high school in Fort Wingate. He was in the U.S. Air Force from 1951, through 1957. Miles had various jobs with Navajo Nation in Fort Defiance. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and watching sports on TV.

Survivors include his brothers, Julius Miles Sr., James Miles Sr., Juan Earl Miles, all of Fort Defiance; sisters, Rose Marie Miles, Doris Shaw, both of Phoenix, Fannie Vann, Darlene Miles, both of Fort Defiance.

Miles was preceded in death by his parents, General and Dora Miles; brothers, Jackie Miles, Joseph Miles Sr.; grandparents, Henry and Martha Belone.

Pallbearers will be Gabriel Scott, Wayne Miles, Emery Chischilly, Milton Benally, Alden Davidson, and Lucas Miles.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Fort Defiance Chapter House, following services.

Kenneth Munoz

GALLUP — Services are pending for Kenneth “Kenny” Munoz, 47.

Munoz died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, in Albuquerque. He was born July 22, 1960, in Gallup.
