CDEC seeks nominations for board of trustees

GRANTS — The Continental Divide Electric Cooperative has opened nomination bids for the board of trustees.

A nominating committee, appointed by the board, will meet at 11 a.m., Feb. 26 at the CDEC’s office in Grants to nominate candidates for three seats to be filled in the April 26 annual meeting.

The committee will nominate one or more candidates for the following districts: District 2, now represented by Lynn Head, of Milan; District 7, now represented by Darrell Elkins, of Thoreau; and at-large, now represented by Keith Gottlieb, of Cubero.

District 2 includes the village of Milan and surrounding areas including both sides of N.M. 605-North to Homestake site, Lobo Canyon, Zuni Canyon and Mount Taylor Addition.

District 7 includes area north and west of Milan, including Ambrosia Lake, Thoreau, Crownpoint, Standing Rock, Pinedale, Mariano Lake, Smith Lake, Churchrock, Fort Wingate, McGaffey and Iyanbito.

The at-large Trustee does not represent a specific district in the co-op service area, but serves the entire area. An at-large trustee can live anywhere in the service area.

“Any member and active consumer of Continental Divide, can run for a seat on the co-op’s governing board or vote for someone who may be running in your district,” CDEC spokesman Mac Juarez said.

Members who wish to be nominated should contact CDEC Assistant Manager Corina Sandoval at the Grants office before the February meeting. Any member not nominated at the meeting can still run for one of the trustee positions by picking up a petition form at the office, gathering 15 signatures from current members, and returning the petition to the office before by March 27.

Candidates and those seeking candidacy must be members of Continental Divide before they file for nomination or candidacy.

All CDEC electric consumers are eligible to join the co-op. Consumers should find an application for membership included in electric bills periodically. Consumers may also join by stopping by the office and enrolling in person. Membership fee is $5 a year.

To vote in the Annual Meeting election, Continental Divide consumers must be registered members by March 31, 2008. Information: CDEC Grants Office: 200 E. High St. in Grants, phone (505) 285-6656.
