Fire ravages Gallup home
Flames consume Old Zuni Drive-In Road house

GALLUP — A fire caused significant damage to a residence at the 100 Block of Old Zuni Drive-In Road Tuesday night.

Gallup Fire Chief Robert Soto said firefighters were called to the house at about 8:15 p.m. and found flames shooting from the roof and windows. The blaze was extinguished within minutes and firefighters removed a 20-pound propane tank from the vicinity to prevent further damage.

The home’s owners escaped without harm, Soto said.
The fire’s cause is under investigation by Navajo police because the house is located within the agency’s jurisdiction. Soto said he did not know whether the blaze was considered suspicious. Wednesday morning firefighters were called back to the scene when hotspots from the previous night’s fire reignited.

“The investigation has been turned over to Navajo police,” Soto said.
