Elsie Sloan
TWIN LAKES Services for Elsie Mae Sloan, 75, will be 2
p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at the Bethlehem CRC, Tohlakai, N.M. Mr.
Andrew Begay will officiate.
Sloan died Jan. 11, 2008, in Twin Lakes. She was born Dec. 1,
1932, in Rehoboth into the Bitter Water People Clan.
Sloan attended Good Shepard Mission, Fort Defiance. She worked
for the BIA school system and the McKinley County School District,
and was currently a homemaker. Her passions included cooking,
sewing, and various arts and crafts. Elsie was a lifelong member
of the Bethlehem CRC.
Survivors include her daughter, Beulah (Hood) Nakai; sisters,
Alice Antone of Texas, Lillie Benally of Tohlakai, Nellie Long
of Tohlakai; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
Sloan was preceded in death by her mother; sister, Ruth Etsitty;
brother, Tom Tony.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Bethlehem CRC,
following services.

Dannie Mason
SUNDANCE Funeral services for Dannie L. Mason, 72, will
be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the Rollie Palm Chapel, Gallup.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Gallup. Visitation will
be 2-4 p.m. at Rollie Mortuary.
Mason died Jan. 11, 2008, in Albuquerque. He was born Jan. 17,
1935, in Crownpoint into the Tangle People Clan for the Water
Flows Together People Clan.
Mason graduated from Fort Wingate High School on May 14, 1956.
During high school he began working at the Bureau of Indian Affairs
Road Dept. as a draftsman. He worked for 42 years and retired
in 1994. His hobbies included ranch work, welding and barbecuing
for family.
Survivors include his wife Verdie J. Mason of Sundance; sons,
Harold L. Mason of Sundance; daughters, Geneva Stevens of Sundance,
Pamela Mason of Gallup; brothers, James Mason, Richard Mason,
Rueben Mason, Eddie L. Mason; sister, Lorraine James; five grandchildren;
one great-grandchild.
Mason was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Celia Mason;
brother, Irwin Mason; sons, Vernon Mason, Dannie L. Mason Jr.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Begay, Dannie Stevens, Matthew Vandever,
Ralph Mason, Mike Nelson Jr., and Calvin Marianito.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Emerson Tallwood
SAWMILL Funeral service for Emerson Joseph Tallwood will
be 10 a.m. Jan. 16, at Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament, Fort Defiance.
Father Gilbert will officiate. Burial will be in the family plot.
Visitation will be one hour before services.
Tallwood died Jan. 13, 2008, in Sawmill. He was born Jan. 12,
1964, in Fort Defiance into the Red Running into the Water People
Clan for the Honey Comb People Clan.
Tallwood attended Crystal Boarding School and Window Rock Junior
High. He participated in various summer programs. He enjoyed playing
cards and taking long walks. He also enjoyed joking with family
and friends and listening to oldies rock and country music.
Survivors include his brother, Elmer Tallwood; sisters, Elvira
Tallwood, Christine Tallwood, Shirley Berchman, Victoria McArthur,
Charotte McArthur.
Tallwood was preceded in death by his grandparents, Newton and
Edna Brown; parents, Hosteen and Susie Tallwood.
Pallbearers will be family members.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Sawmill Chapter
House, following services.

Helen Moreno
EDGEWOOD Funeral service for Helen Catherine Moreno, 82,
were 2 p.m. today, Jan. 15, at the First United Methodist Church,
Gallup. Pastor Layloni Drake officiated. A wake was 7 p.m. Monday,
Jan. 14, at her daughters home, Philomena Allen. Father Raymond
Raney and Chaplain Roxroy Reid officiated. Burial was at the Sunset
Memorial Park, Gallup.
Moreno died Jan. 11, 2008, in Edgewood. She was born Feb. 17,
1925, in Gallup.
Moreno moved to Edgewood and has lived there since 2002. She
was a devoted wife and mother and was very active in the community.
Moreno supported girls softball in the early 1970s and helped
coach the Babes softball team to victory.
Survivors include her daughter, Philomena Allen of Edgewood, NM;
brothers, Tony Mesich, Joe Mesich; sister, Mary Ann Livingston;
two granddaughters.
Moreno was preceded in death by her husband, Joesph Anthony Moreno;
children, Joseph Anthony, Joe Anthony, Phillip Anthony, Judith
Ann, David Michael, Gerald, Geralynn Maryann; parents, John and
Katherine (Plese) Mesich.
Pallbearers were Gary Allen, Doc Livingston, John Mesich, Gilbert
Moreno, Gary Mesich, Terry Mesich, and Floyd Kezele.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The Zia
Fund, The Alzheimers Fund and Care Net.
Fidel Chacon
GAMERCO Services are pending for Fidel Chacon, 50.
Chacon died Jan. 12, 2008, in Gallup. He was born Jan. 24, 1957,
in Gallup.
A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Rollie
Mortuary.
