Police probe shooting
Shotgun fired at Gallup home

By Leslie Wood

GALLUP — Police are seeking information about a weekend confrontation and subsequent drive-by shooting that damaged a Princeton Avenue residence.

Sgt. Erin Toadlena-Pablo, a spokeswoman for the Gallup Police Department, said officers were dispatched to the 600 Block of Princeton at about 1 a.m. Sunday in reference to reports of shots fired.

Authorities found that three shotgun blasts had damaged the residence. Drops of blood were also discovered near the front porch.

One of the residence’s occupants said he was confronted earlier in the evening by two men who knocked on his window and demanded an unknown amount of cash.

A physical confrontation ensued and the homeowner was punched in the face before the two men fled the scene. He said he did not know the men.

An hour later, the man reported hearing several shots fired and notified police.

The residence’s male occupant said he suspects the same men who confronted him were involved in the shooting. He did not, however, provide authorities with a detailed description of his assailants or the getaway vehicle.

Toadlena-Pablo said one of the men is 5 feet 7 inches tall and has long hair in a ponytail. The second suspect is about 6 feet tall and weighs about 230 pounds.

Anyone with information about the shooting, is asked to call CrimeStoppers at (505) 722-6161 or the Gallup Police Department at (505) 863-9365. CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information that leads the arrest and conviction of suspects in the case.
