Teen caught inside former Heilig-Meyers

GALLUP — City police officers foiled a burglary attempt this morning at a local storage warehouse.

Deputy Police Chief John Allen, a spokesman for the Gallup Police Department, said officers noticed a broken window at the former Heilig-Meyers furniture store near the East-Y intersection at about 1 a.m. The space is currently used for storage.

After further inspection, authorities found 19-year-old Antonio Baca, of the 800 Block of west Mesa, inside the building.

“We found him before he was able to make off with anything,” Allen said.

Baca was booked into the McKinley County Adult Detention Center on a single charge of breaking and entering without further incident.

Baca gained entry to the facility through the broken window, Allen said.
