Carolyn Johnson

GALLUP — Funeral services for Carolyn T. Johnson, 87, will be 10 a.m. (DST), Thursday, March 20, at Rollie Memorial Chapel, Gallup. Pastor Terry Goodin will officiate. Burial will be in Gallup City Cemetery.

Johnson died March 15, 2008, in Gallup. She was born April 1, 1920, in Mexican Water, into the Red House People Clan for the One Who Walks Around You People Clan.

Johnson graduated from Shiprock High School and trained as a health nursing aide. She worked for government services in health. Johnson was also a silversmith, rug weaver, and Navajo doll maker. She provided Christian guidance to the youth and attended church camp meetings.

Survivors include her sons, Kermit R. Johnson, Michael R. Johnson both of Gallup; daughters, Katherine Billie (Kathy) of Dilkon, Ariz., Vera M. Damon of Gamerco; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Johnson was preceded in death by her brother, Woodrow John; sister, Katherine Naswood; parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Red.

Pallbearers will be Ason Damon III, Stuart Damon, Ron Hudson, Edward Johnson, Toby Thomas and Vince Willie.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Red Rimrock Recreation Center, 700 Rimrock, Gallup, 12 p.m. following services.

Michael Cordova

MILAN — Service for Michael Cordova, 58, will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 21, at the Grace Baptist Church, Milan. Pastor Dale Thatcher will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Lumberton, Colo.

Cordova died March 13, 2008, in Grants. He was born Feb. 27, 1950, in Durango, Colo.

Cordova was retired from Operating Engineers Local #953 as a heavy equipment operator. He loved spending time outdoors riding horses, hunting and spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Josie Cordova of Milan; son, Michael Cordova Jr., of Milan; daughters, Irene Cordova, Denise Rivera, both of Milan; brother, Manuel Cordova of Bluewater; sister, Dodie Cordova of Puyallup, Wash.; six grandchildren.

Cordova was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Antonio Cordova, Mary Irene (Read) Cordova; brother, Horacio Cordova.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Manuel Cordova Jr., Shawn Francis, T.J. Swain, Paul Madrid, Dennis Chavez, Carlos Gurule, Jess Fonseca, Jim Stafford, Paul Mitchell, Mario Talamonte, Frank Talamonte, Larry Castleberry, Eric Bowman and Nick Hernandez.

Compassion Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

David Yazzie

TSAILE/ROUND ROCK — Funeral services for David Dee Yazzie, 57, will be 9 a.m., Wednesday, March 19, at St. Isabelle Catholic Church, Lukachukai. Burial will be in Lukachukai Community.

Yazzie died March 16, 2008, in Albuquerque. He was born Nov. 8, 1950, in Round Rock, into the Red House People Clan for the Edge Water People Clan.

Yazzie attended Shiprock Boarding School and graduated from Chilcco, Okla. He was a family service liason for 37 years of service for the Navajo Nation. His favorite hobbies were fishing and traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Dora C. Yazzie of Tsaile; son, Duane Al Yazzie of Flagstaff; daughters, Duweena Yazzie, Ronna Rae Yazzie, April Dawn Yazzie, Megan Faye Yazzie, all of Phoenix, Davelyn Rae Yazzie of Tsaile; brothers, Herman H. Yazzie of Many Farms, Lawrence Emerson Yazzie of Las Vegas, Nev., Elmer Yazzie, Julius Paul Yazzie, both of Glendale; sisters, Mary A. John of Tsaile, Marily Yazzie, Maria M. Yazzie, Mary L. John, both of Glendale, Melinda Paula Begay of Piñon; grandmother, Jean Chee; two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Alonzo John, Rolando John, Henson Kinlicheeni, Cyrus Faber, Curtis Kenny, and Joseph Tsosie.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the family residence in Tsaile, following services.

Mary Begay

HOLBROOK — Funeral services for Mary E. Begay, 68, will be 1 p.m. Friday, March 21, at the Faith Assembly of God Church, 311 East Erie Street, Holbrook. A family meeting was held 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at the Faith Assembly of God Church Fellowship Hall.

Begay died March 15, 2008, in Phoenix. She was born into the Honeycomb/Cliff Dwellers People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Survivors include her sisters, Louise Begay of Holbrook, Dorothy Jim of Sunrise Springs, Ariz.

Begay was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Begay, father, John X. Nez; sisters, Lois B. Spencer, Jeanette (JB) Keams, Ella Ann Begay; brother, Dan Harry Begay.

Juanita Yazzie

LOW MOUNTAIN, Ariz. — Funeral services are pending for Juanita Yazzie, 38.

Yazzie died March 14, 2008, in Mariano Lake.

She was born Oct. 6, 1969, in Summit, Ariz.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Darryl Martine

FORT DEFIANCE — Services are pending for Darryl Joseph Martine, 43.

Martine died Sunday, March 16, 2008, in Gallup. He was born Feb. 4, 1965, in Gallup, into the Towering House People Clan for the Red Running Into the Water People Clan.

Thomasina Ellison

MANUELITO — Services are pending for Thomasina Jean Ellison, 28.

Ellison died Monday, March 17, 2008, in Albuquerque. She was born April 26, 1979, in Gallup, into the Mexican People Clan for the Meadow People Clan.
