Deaths

Jack Balok

ROSWELL — Memorial services for Jack G. Balok, 70, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, July 30, at Anderson-Berthany Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral Mass will be 12 p.m., July 30, at Assumption Catholic Church. The Rev. Bill McCann will officiate. Burial will be on Zuni Mountain, at a later date.

Balok died July 24, 2009, in Roswell. He was born Nov. 28, 1938, in Gallup.

Balok married Pat Cochrell on June 19, 1965, in Albuquerque. He was a rancher and enjoyed spending time with his kids and family. When he could, he liked to go dancing. Before becoming a full time rancher he worked as a Cathotic Protection Engineer in New Mexico.

Survivors include his wife, Pat of Roswell; sons, Shawn Balok of Oklahoma, Aron Balok of Roswell; daughter, Brandi Balok; seven grandchildren; three brothers.

Balok was preceded in death by his parents, Jack J. Balok and Pauline Basgall; one brother.

Lillian Holyan

TOHATCHI — Funeral services for Lillan Holyan, 74, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, July 30, at Tohatchi Pentecostal Church. Jerry Eastridge will officiate. Burial will be in family cemetery, Tohatchi.

Holyan died July 24, 2009, in Albuquerque. She was born Dec. 4, 1936, in Tohatchi, into the Edgewater People Clan for the Hairy People Clan.

Survivors include her sons, Leonard McReeves of Tohatchi, Marvin McReeves of Fort Defiance, Lowery McReeves of Tohatchi, Darrell McReeves of Flagstaff; brothers, Johnny Holyan, Donald Holyan, Monte Holyan; sister, Mary Henry; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Holyan was preceded in death by her mother, Annie Manuelito Holyan; father, Tom Holyan; son, Shawn McReeves; sisters, Emma Tracey, Alice Hardy; brother, Tommy Holyan.

Pallbearers will be Leonard McReeves, Dory Silversmith, James Silver, Herbert Bitsilly, Olin Keiyoomia, Robbie Holyan.

The family will receive relatives and friends 10 a.m. July 28-29, at Leonard McReeves residence, 2 miles south of Tohatchi Chevron.

Charlie Nelson

BLACKHAT — Funeral services for Charlie Nelson, 79, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 29, at Rollie Mortuary. The Rev. Dennis Keith will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Gallup.

Nelson died July 24, 2009, in Gallup. He was born Feb. 9, 1930, in Manuelito.

Survivors include his wife, Jennie Nelson; sons, Harvey Nelson, Howard Nelson.

Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, Salemon Charlie Chischilly, Alth Stoi Nos Bah Chischilly.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Sam Padilla

SOCORRO — Rosary for Sam James Padilla, 72, was recited on 10 a.m., today, July 28, at the San Miguel Catholic Church, Socorro. Funeral Mass followed. The Rev. Andy Pavlak officiated. Burial was in Polvadera Cemetery. 

Padilla died Sunday, July 26, 2009, in Socorro. He was born Sept. 29, 1936, in Polvadera, N.M.
Padilla retired from the Santa Fe Railroad in 1993 after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Senior Olympics where he was involved in many of the activities.

Survivors include his wife, Susie Martinez Padilla of Socorro; daughters, Barbara J. Daugherty of Gallup, Paula Deweese of Socorro, JoAnn Daley of Socorro; sister, Lily Apodaca of Polvadera; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Padilla was preceded in death by his parents, Eugenio and Miquelita (Chavez) Padilla; siblings, Helen Jojola, Rosie Garcia, Seles Padilla Sr. and Paul Padilla. 

Pallbearers were Carlos Tafoya, Louie Armijo, Joseph Tafoya, Joe Sanchez, Ross Salazar and David Gallegos. 

The family received relatives and friends at the San Lorenzo Catholic Church in Polvadera. 
In lieu of flowers donations be made to the UNM Cancer Center, Albuquerque.
