GALLUP — A freight train killed two men and a dog Friday morning, according to Gallup Police Detective Sgt. Matt Wright.

Railroad staff told police they saw a Native American man and a Caucasian man with a dog sitting on the south rail of the tracks near the intersection of Mollica Drive and Historic Route 66. The train — which police say travels at about 50 mph through that section of town — initiated emergency procedures but couldn’t stop in time.
