Jerry Begay

SHEEPSPRINGS — Services are pending for Jerry A. Begay, 87. Begay died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born May 21, 1922, in Sheepsprings, into the Red Running Into the Water People Clan for the One Who Walks Around People Clan.

Edwin Benally

MEXICAN SPRINGS — Funeral Mass for Edwin Kee Benally, 31, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 3, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Mexican Springs. The Rev. John Mittelstadt, OFM will officiate. Burial will be in Lone Pine Cemetery, Mexican Springs. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m., tonight, Sept. 2, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Benally died Aug. 30, 2009, in Mexican Springs. He was born Oct. 3, 1977, in Gallup, into the Hairy Ones People Clan for the Water Edge People Clan.

Benally graduated from Tohatchi High School and attended Luna Vocational Technical Institute in Las Vegas, N.M. and UNM-Gallup. He was currently employed with Navajo Housing Authority as a carpenter. His hobbies included basketball, goat roping, fishing, camping and caring for his kids.

Survivors include his son, KeShawn Kee Benally of Mexican Springs; daughters, Haley Rose Benally, Amber Rose Benally, both of Mexican Springs; parents, Kee Tso Benally, Nancy Lorraine Benally of Mexican Springs; brother, Owen Kee Benally of Mexican Springs; sisters, Edwina Benally, Nicole Kay Benally, Kaylyn Rose Benally, all of Mexican Springs; grandmother, Rose Muskett Begay.

Benally was preceded in death by his grandparents, Manuel T. Begay Sr., Kee Benally Sr., Keebah Benally.

Pallbearers will be Nate James, Merl Begay, Rufus Etcitty, Curtis Gilmore, Carlos Becenti, Ferrell Becenti.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Mexican Springs Chapter House, following services.

Thomas Gutierrez

GRANTS — Funeral Mass for Thomas L. “Tom” Gutierrez, 55, will be 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 4, at St. Teresa School gym. Private burial will be at a later date. A rosary will be 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 3, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Gutierrez died Aug. 31, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born July 14, 1954, in Morgantown, W.V.
Gutierrez was the Manager of Diamond G. Lumber Yard in Grants.

Survivors include his wife, Carmna Gutierrez of Grants; children, Jessica Thompson of Grants, Zachery Gutierrez of Grants, Michael Gutierrez of Grants; parents, Dr. Gilbert Gutierrez, Margaret Gutierrez of Grants; brothers, Dr. Karl Gutierrez of Grants, Eugene Gutierrez of Grants, Dr. Timothy Gutierrez of Albuquerque, Richard Gutierrez of Grants, Dr. Paul Gutierrez of Las Cruces, Patrick Gutierrez of Grants, Christopher Gutierrez of Grants; sisters, Francis Jernigan of Aztec, Maria Atencio of Grants, Antoinette Jenson of Mass., Margaret Woodbury of Arizona; two grandchildren.

Walter Tinnin

ZUNI — Graveside services for Walter Harry “Kay” Tinnin, 81, will be 11:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 4, at Santa Fe National Cemetery, with full military honors. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 4, at Berardinelli Funeral Home, Santa Fe.

Memorial Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 5, at the Christian Reform Church, Zuni.
Tinnin died Monday, Aug. 31, in Buffalo, Wyo. He was born Dec. 10, 1927, in Durango, Colo.
Tinnin and his family moved often to find work living in Durango, Wolf Creek (Summitville Mine), Alamosa, Crestone, Bonanza and Salida, all in Colorado. They also lived in Death Valley, Calif. (Kean Wonder Mine), Farmington, and Gallup. In 1944, he quit high school, lied about his age, and joined the Navy. He served his country in the Navy as a cook and spent time in Spain and China and was discharged in 1948. He then served in the Naval Reserve until 1953. In 2004, he was recognized for his service by being awarded honorary high school diplomas. He married in 1950, in Alamosa, Colo., and then moved to Zuni, where he worked for Vanderwagen Brothers Trading Post (Halona Plaza). He successfully bought and sold Zuni jewelry and later retired from the jewelry business and spent his time doing a multitude of things from playing pool, helping nearby ranchers, skiing, participating in Senior Olympics and wellness walks.

Survivors include his son, John Tinnin of Kaycee, Wyo.; daughters, Coleen Mailliard of Phoenix, Patti Smith of Albuquerque, Lee Ann Tinnin of Tucson, Jennifer Enote Becker of Zuni, Loesa Weebothee of Zuni; sister, Charline Levin Husted of Volcano, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; six great grandchildren

Tinnin was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Basil Tinnin, Charline Leah Tuner; step-father, Levin Lewis Charles; one sister. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Mexico Senior Olympics in care of Adams Funeral Home, 351 North Adams Avenue, Buffalo, Wyoming.

Marilyn Woody

CHURCHROCK — Funeral services for Marilyn Scott Tennison Woody, 47, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 3, at Rollie Mortuary, Gallup.

Sister Bernice Coleman will officiate. Burial will be in Gallup City Cemetery.

Woody died Aug. 29, 2009, in Gallup. She was born June 25, 1962, in Fort Defiance, into the Bitter Water People Clan.

Survivors include her sons, Orion Stephenson of Bluewater, Gino Larry of Thoreau, Thorton Larry of Thoreau; daughters, Alyssia Scott of Bluewater, Gina Larry of Thoreau; brothers, Dale Livingston of Mariano Lake, Phillip Livingston of Pinedale; sisters, Rose Livingston, Lorraine Livingston, both of Churchrock, Rosie Pinto of Iyanbito.

Woody was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie Woody Sr., Marie Woody; brother, Jimmy Woody Jr.

Pallbearers will be Jimmie Woody III, Jesse Woody, Leibert Lynch, Brian Jones.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Churchrock Chapter House, following services.
