GALLUP — Patti Herrera, president of the board of directors at the Na’Nizhoozhi Center, Inc., will speak before the Gallup City Council Tuesday on the state of affairs at the center, called NCI around Gallup. The center is Gallup’s sole detoxification center.

NCI made headlines last month when it was revealed City Councilor John “Jay” Azua, program manger at NCI, worked directly under Herrera. Some residents in the community pointed out to the Independent via telephone calls that the relationship, however professional, was conflictual, particularly when one considers Patti Herrera’s husband is City Manager Gerald Herrera — who is the subject of an ongoing job performance evaluation.
