GALLUP — If you want to know how Gallup has changed, weather-wise, in September, just ask a dove hunter. Or, in this case, a former dove hunter by the name of Franklin Zecca.

Zecca, a local dentist, remembers the old days — some 20 or 30 years ago — when dove hunters in Gallup would look forward to September and October because of the dove hunting and would check out their favorite watering hole because they knew water was scarce and there would be doves there.
