GRANTS — Irene Howard, 68, of Grants, grandmother to Consuelo Tafoya, said Wednesday afternoon prior to appearing in Cibola County Magistrate Court on a truancy case that she continues to try to get her granddaughter up for school with Consuela saying “I don’t want to go.”

Howard’s legal guardianship was a point of contention between her attorney Gary Fernandez and Assistant District Attorney Niva Lind.
