Henry Begay

MURRAY, Utah — Funeral services for Henry Begay, 64, will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 5, at Bethany Christian Reformed, Gallup. The Rev. Dan Kruis will officiate. Burial will be in Rehoboth Cemetery.

Begay died Oct. 30, 2009, in Murray, Utah. He was born Oct. 10, 1945, in Red Rock, into the Black Streak in the Forest People Clan for the Red Running Into the Water People Clan.

Begay attended Rehoboth Christian School and Haskell Indian College. He was in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a Vietnam veteran. He was employed with EJ Bartells, Utah Transit Authority and Soth in Salt Lake City. His passion was softball as a player and coach with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Wadsworth Begay of Murray, Utah; sons, Michael Begay of Standsbury Park, Utah, Chad Begay of Toppenish, Wash., Larry Begay of Murray, Utah, Eric Begay of Fort Hall, Idaho; brothers, Felix T. Begay of Gallup, Ernest T. Begay of Leupp, David T. Begay of Albuquerque, Calvin T. Begay of Red Rock, Andrew T. Begay of Albuquerque, Alvin T. Begay of Red Rock, Alex T. Begay of Red Rock; sister, Virginia B. Belone of Lawrence, Kan.; eight grandchildren.

Begay was preceded in death by his parents, Coolidge Begay, Alice M. Begay; brothers, Anderson T. Begay, Ambrose Begay.

The family will receive relatives and friends at 1110 South Strong, Gallup, following services.

Martin Chavez

BLANCO — Rosary for Martin Chavez, 62, will be 7 p.m., tonight, Nov. 4, at Compassion Mortuary. Burial will be at a later date.

Chavez died Oct. 31, 2009, in Farmington. He was born April 27, 1947, in San Rafael.

Chavez was retired from the City of Grants.
Survivors include his children; Lucy Harris of Bloomfield, Nancy Chavez of Rifle, Colo., Annette Chavez of San Rafael, Samantha Chavez of Albuquerque, Peggy Chavez of Jacksonville, Texas, Martina Puckett of Farmington, Antonia Tafoya of San Rafael, Annabelle Tafoya of Muskogee, Okla., Bill Tafoya of Farmington, James Tafoya of Milan; sisters, Sylvia Salcido of San Rafael, Mary Padilla of San Rafael; brothers, Eugene Chavez of San Rafael, Cecilio Chavez of Phoenix, Manuel Chavez of Grants, Richard Chavez of San Rafael; 23 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Chavez was preceded in death by his parents, Augustine and Lucy Chavez.

Raymond Cordova

GALLUP — Services for Raymond Cordova, 47, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 5, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Gallup. The Rev. Patrick D. Schafer, OFM, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Gallup. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m., today, Nov. 4, at Rollie Mortuary. A rosary will be recited 9:30 a.m., Nov. 5, at St. Francis of Assisi Church.

Cordova died Oct. 30, 2009, in Gallup. He was born April 26, 1962, in Gallup.

Cordova was a plumber by trader. He graduated from Gallup High School in 1980. He was in the U.S. Army. Cordova loved to cook, bake, garden, and play with his pet. He loved his nieces, nephews, he showed them how to cook, bake and how to appreciate nature.

Survivors include his brothers, Joseph Gurule of Los Cruces, Manuel Cordova, Robert Cordova, both of Gallup, Leo Cordova; sisters, Kathy James, Jeannie Cordova, Laura Cordova, Darlene Manges, Lupita Angel, all of Gallup, Aggie Naranjo of Espanola, Rita Espinoza, Josie Mora.
Cordova was preceded in death by his parents, Lupe and Stella Cordova; brothers, George Gurule, Leroy Cordova.

Pallbearers will be his brothers and sisters.
The family will receive relatives and friends at KC Hall, Gallup, following services.

Ricky Lee

PINEDALE — Funeral services for Ricky J. Lee, 49, will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 5, at Rollie Mortuary, Gallup. The Rev. Grobber will officiate. Burial will be in Gallup City Cemetery.

Lee died Oct. 29, 2009, in Rehoboth. He was born Dec. 9, 1960, in Mentmore, into the Two Who Came to the Water People Clan for the Black Streak of Forest People Clan.

Lee enjoyed traveling. His hobbies included fixing motors, being a mechanic, a carpenter, making people laugh and he enjoyed cooking, listening to county music. His favorite singer was Garth Brooks and his favorite song was “Five O’clock Somewhere”.

Survivors include his sons, Nelbert Lee, Norbert Lee, Patrick Lee, Roderick Lee, Derrick Lee; daughter, Felicia Lee; parents, Margaret Peterson, Slady Jim; brothers, Jimmy Lee, Melvin Lee, Frederick Peterson; sisters, Shirley Manygoats, Loretta Thompson, Luttie Lee; seven grandchildren.

Lee was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Peterson.

Pallbearers will be Nelbert Lee, Eddie Livingston, Frederick Peterson, Jimmie Lee, Randy Tsosie, Roger Lee, Michael Manygoats, Lawrence Manygoats.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Pinedale Chapter House, following services.

Ellison Tennison

RED ROCK — Traditional wake for Ellison Tennison, 74, were 10 a.m., today, Nov. 4, at Rollie Mortuary Palm Chapel, Gallup. The Rev. Joe M. Lee will officiate. Burial will be in family land, Red Rock.

Tennison died Oct. 30, 2009, in Vanderwagen. He was born July 10, 1935, in New Mexico, into the Zuni Edge Water People Clan for the Red Bottom People Clan.

Tennison retired from P&M Coal as a truck driver. He was a rancher, raising sheep, horses and cattle. He enjoyed being with his grandchildren, smiling and laughing with family and friends.
Survivors include his son, Jones Tennison; daughters, Ida Tennison-Wilson, Reta Mae Tennison, Katie Tennison, Joyce Ann Tennison; sister, Evlyn Begay, Narlene Barny; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren.

Tennison was preceded in death by Alice B. Tennison, Jacob Tennison, Tom C. Williams, Rose T. Lee, Carlene Joe; parents, Robert Tennison, Nanibah Nez.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Williams, Jasper Begay, Don Spencer, Jamaico Tennison, Tyrell Harker, Jerry Harker.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Red Rock Chapter, following services.

Mabel Thompson

LITTLEWATER — Funeral services for Mabel Benally Thompson, 88, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 5, at Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church, Thoreau. Burial will be in Smith Lake Cemetery, Smith Lake. Visitation will be 9 a.m., at Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church, Thoreau.

Thompson died Oct. 31, 2009, in Albuquerque. She was born Dec. 20, 1920, in Crownpoint, into the Folded Arms People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Survivors include her sons, Peter Thompson, Tommy Thompson, Leo Thompson; daughters, Anita Brown, Louise Thompson, Eileen Sage; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Thompson was preceded in death by her sons, Alfred Thompson, Henry Thompson, Harvey Thompson, Albert Thompson, Ernie Van Thompson; daughter, Betty T. Canning.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church, Thoreau, following services.

CHINLE — Burke graduated from Chinle High School and attended Diné College in Tsaile. He was a teacher in Marerville, Ill. and Mesa.
Survivors include his parents, Virginia and Raymond Burke; brother, Jason Burke; sisters, Renae Ayze, Melody Teppits.
