CHURCHROCK — It ended up changing his life, that day Lloyd Oliver volunteered for the United States Marine Corps, he thought only of getting off the reservation and serving his country.

As an enlisted Marine during the 1940s, Oliver was a Navajo Code Talker — recruited to transmit coded radio messages during World War II.
