Mary Batson

GALLUP — Services for Mary Louise Batson, 73, will be 9 a.m., Nov. 13, at First Baptist Church.

The Rev. Jay McCollum will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Gallup. Visitation will be 12-4 p.m., today, Nov. 12, at Rollie Mortuary.

Batson died Nov. 9, 2009, in Albuquerque. She was born Nov. 17, 1935, in Tucumcari.

Batson graduated from Tucumcari High School, attended Abilene Christian College and Eastern NM University. She was employed with Gallup McKinley County Schools for 25 years. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa and served as President, treasurer and currently chairman of McKinley County Retired Educators. Batson volunteered at the Community Pantry and Frances Adult Day Care. She enjoyed golfing, puzzles, bowling and being her grandchildren’s biggest fan.

Survivors include her son, Brad Batson of Fort Worth, Texas; daughter, Linn Condrey of Gallup; brother, Roy Hale of Allen, Texas; sisters, Marjorie West, Jane Kivell, both of Sulphur Springs, Texas; two grandchildren.

Batson was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Batson; parents, Edna Ingram Hale, John Hale.

Pallbearers will be Michael Condrey, Drew Condrey, Brad Batson, Jonathan Batson, Dax Moyer, Mike Batson.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Elks Lodge, Gallup, following services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Heart Association or Gallup Community Pantry, PO Box 520, Gallup.

Regina Benally

GALLUP — Services for Regina Benally, 36, will be 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13, at Cope Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Kee Benally will officiate. Burial will be in family land, Lake Springs.

Benally died Nov. 8, 2009, in Churchrock. She was born Sept. 7, 1973, in Gallup, into the Folded Arms People Clan for the Water Edge People Clan.

Benally attended Gallup High School. She loved watching PBR and lived going to rodeos. Most of all she loved spending time with her kids, family and friends.

Survivors include her sons, Logan Francisco, Cash Lewis, both of Williams Acres; daughter, Raquel Benally of Williams Acres; mother, Annie Benally of Phoenix; brother, Orlando Borunda of Phoenix.

Benally was preceded in death by her grandparents, James and Anita Benally.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Parker, Henry Parker, Darrell Benally, Orlando Borunda, Oscar Alexus, Eric Florence.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Red Rock Chapter House, following services. The family met 6 p.m., Nov. 11, at Red Rock Chapter.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Curley Biggs

RAMAH — Funeral services for Curley K. Biggs, 51, will be 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 13, at Ramah Nazarene Church. The Rev. Floyd Fisher will officiate. Burial will be in private family plot, Ramah.

Biggs died Nov. 7, 2009, in Gallup. He was born June 7, 1958, in Ramah, into the Salt People Clan for the Ute People Clan.

Biggs attended Fort Sill Indian School, Fort Sill, Okla. He was employed as a Ramah Dorm Attendent for 15 years. He was President for Ramah Chapter, involved with the Land Board, Navajo School Board, Chapter Secretary/Treasurer, and US MC Veteran.
Survivors include his sons, Curley Biggs Jr., Bernell Biggs; brothers, Kaye Thompson Biggs, Jerry Pino Sr.; sisters, June Lee, Ella L. Joe.

Biggs was preceded in death by his parents, Elsie Biggs, Kay Biggs; sister, Lucinda Johnson; brother, Dennis Martine.

Mary Chavez

ST. MICHAELS — Funeral Mass for Mary Eleanor Chavez, 78, were 10 a.m., today, Nov. 12, at Mary Mother of Mankind Catholic Church, St. Michaels. The Rev. Gilbert Schneider, OFM, officiated.

Burial was in St. Michael’s Community Cemetery. Visitation was 9 a.m., one hour prior to mass. Rosary was recited 6 p.m., Nov. 11, at Mary Mother of Mankind Catholic Church.

Chavez died Nov. 8, 2009, in Fort Defiance. She was born April 20, 1931, in St. Michaels, into the One Who Walks Around People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Survivors include her five children; one brother; three sisters; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Chavez was preceded in death by her husband, Kee Chavez; parents, Joe and GlenMae Tsosie.
The family received relatives and friends at St. Michaels Parish gymnasium, following services.

Lorna Chester

ALBUQUERQUE — Services are pending for Lorna Jean Chester, 42.

Chester died Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, in Albuquerque. She was born Nov. 28, 1966, in Gallup.

Mary Curley

KLAGETOH — Funeral services for Mary Alice Curley, 81, were 10 a.m., today, Nov. 12, at Klagetoh Shelter Mission, Klagetoh. Ronald Woodman officiated. Burial was in Klagetoh Cemetery.

Curley died Nov. 7, 2009, in Flagstaff. She was born June 10, 1928, in Cross Canyon, into the Bitter Water People Clan for the One Who Walks Around People Clan.

Curley was a home maker and rug weaver.
Survivors include her sons, Wayne Curley of Manuelito, Harrison Curley of Gallup, Thomas Curley Jr. of Sanders, Peter J. Curley of Lower Greasewood; daughters, Emma Wilson, Sarah Curley, Genevieve Nez, all of Sanders, Eva Curley of Chambers, Ruth Bailey of Phoenix, Cynthia Curley of Gallup, Benita Curley of Chinle; brothers, Samuel Tapaha of Klagetoh, Kee Tapaha of Borrego Pass; 52 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren.

Curley was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Curley Sr.; daughter, Judy Begay; sister, Alice Begay; brothers, Joseph, Johnny, Sammy, Chee; three grandchildren.

Pallbearers were family members.

Frank DeLaTorre

GALLUP — Services are pending for Frank DeLaTorre, 87.

DeLaTorre died Nov. 10, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born April 2, 1922, in Gallup.

DeLaTorre was retired from the PNM Mines and worked with his wife as Election Poll Judges in Indian Hills.

Alice Watson

BLACKHAT — Funeral services for Alice Kee Watson, 84, will be 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 13, at Cope Memorial Chapel, Gallup. Francis Begay will officiate. Burial will be in Gallup City Cemetery, Gallup.

Watson died Nov. 7, 2009, in Gallup. She was born Aug. 8, 1925, in Wildcat Springs, into the Salt People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Watson was self employed, a rug weaver and did beadwork. She enjoyed cooking for loved ones and was a member of Hooghan Nizhoni Church of God. She enjoyed traveling to different places.

Survivors include her son, Raymond W. James; brother, Juan Watson of Blackhat; sisters, Nora James, Clara Yazzie, Lillie Watson, all of Blackhat; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Watson was preceded in death by her parents, Tom Watson, Mary Scott Watson; brother, John Kee Watson.

Pallbearers will be Herman Yazzie Sr., Timothy Yazzie, Gilbert Yazzie, Tommy Yazzie, Ernest Yazzie and Lorenzo James.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Tseyatoh Chapter House, following services.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Teresa Wilson

TOHATCHI — Services are pending for Teresa Arviso Damon Wilson, 61.

Wilson died Nov. 10, 2009, in Albuquerque. She was born Jan. 22, 1948, in Fort Defiance.

Gathering will be 6 p.m., tonight, Nov. 12, at Tohatchi Chapter.
