Donald Leahy

DANOFF, N.M. — Services are pending for Donald Leahy, 78.

Leahy died Nov. 20, 2009, in El Paso, Texas. He was born March 1, 1931, in Danoff.

Leahy graduated from Gallup High in 1948. He served in the U.S. Air Force, and became a Journeyman Electrician. Leahy was a lifetime IBEW journeyman electrician. He worked in New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Texas and many other states. Upon retirement from IBEW, he went to work for OMI at their wastewater treatment facilities in Arkansas and Prescott Valley. He maintained all of the automation controls and chemical content on site.

Survivors his wife, Kathy; son, Jeff of Farmington; daughters, Melanie of Farmington, Linda of Rio Rancho; step-son, Leonard of Lubbock, Texas; step-daughter, April of Farmington; sister, Ruby Bassett of Cameron, MO.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Leahy was preceded in death by his sons, Vernon and Kelly.

Lloyd Ortega

SAN MATEO — Services for Lloyd G. Ortega, 79, will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, in San Mateo Baptist Mission. Burial will be in San Mateo Cemetery. The Rev. James Pouges will officiate. Prayer services will be 7 p.m., tonight, Dec. 8, at San Mateo Baptist Mission Church.

Ortega died Dec. 7, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born July 29, 1930, in San Mateo.

Ortega was a life member of the VFW Lodge 3221 in Grants. He was a veteran serving in the Korean War.

Survivors include his sons, Lloyd Ortega Jr. of San Mateo, Charles Ortega of San Mateo; daughters, Sheila Grant of San Mateo, Veda Ortega of Albuquerque; sister, Esther Bostic of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Ortega was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Ortega; parents, Mariano Ortega, Macelina Chavez Ortega; sisters, Isabel Marquez, Delia Chavez, Louise Ortega; brother, Salamon Ortega.

Pallbearers will be Arsenio Salazar, Jason Ortega, Brian (BJ) Ortega, Chandler Grant, ReyLynn Largo, Arturo Candelaria.

Martha Samuel

CHINLE — Funeral services for Martha Samuel, 71, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Chinle. The Rev. Blane Grein, OFM, will officiate. Burial will be in Nazlini Community Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.

Samuel died Dec. 3, 2009, in Glendale, Ariz. She was born April 4, 1938, in Nazlini, into the Start of the Red Streak People Clan for the Coyote Pass People Clan.

Samuel attended Intermountain Jr. High School, Bringham City, Utah and worked in California for 30 years and Nazlini Chapter House. She liked to joke around and make everyone laugh at family gatherings with her Navajo jokes.

Survivors include her son, Larry Singer; brother, Ernest Yazzie Jr.; sisters, Jennie Todechine, Bernice Thuett; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.

Samuel was preceded in death by her parents, Pauline and Kee Yazzie.

Pallbearers will be Phillip H. Yazzie, Larry Singer Sr., Larry Singer, Leroy George, Wallie Billie, Charlie Billie.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Nazlini Chapter House, following services.

Rose Yazzie

BREADSPRINGS — Services are pending for Rose T. Yazzie, 82.

Yazzie died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, in Gallup. She was born March 18, 1927, in Breadsprings, into the Black Streak of Forest People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

A gathering for friends and family will be 6 p.m., tonight, Dec. 8, at Breadsprings Chapter House.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
